 Local: Illegal campaign contributions alleged
PORTSMOUTH — Gordon Humphrey has received illegal contributions to his campaign and the state's attorney general should investigate and require Humphrey to refund those contributions, said gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. James Squires.
According to the Squires' campaign, when Humphrey filed his declaration of candidacy with the state on June 14, he also refused to abide by the state's voluntary spending cap, which means that his contributions must be limited to $1,000 or less.
However, a financial disclosure statement released by the Friends of Gordon Humphrey on June 21 to the secretary of state's office, lists about $100,000 in contributions that, when given, were over the $1,000 limit.

Humphrey contends the Benson campaign actively recruited supporters to harass him and his family over a recent string of scathing television and radio advertisements against Benson.
Instructing supporters to call an opposing candidate at home, Humphrey said, is also a violation of an agreement Republican gubernatorial candidates signed earlier this year, which states that candidates should not involve other candidates' families in the campaign.
Humphrey's advertisements question the multi-millionaire businessman's loyalty to the Republican Party and highlight campaign donations Benson made to Democrats such as Gov. Jeanne Shaheen and Senate Minority Leader Beverly Hollingworth.
