Tong and Moakes soon joined their collaboration, and under the name Union, the quartet issued a demo in early 2003; later that year, they switched their name to Bloc Party.
The group's demo and concerts began to attract attention from both the press and their peers; Okereke sent a copy of the demo to Franz Ferdinand, who invited them to play at the Domino tenth anniversary bash in fall 2003.

Speaking on the band's Marshalls' mail out, Moakes revealed that the East London quartet have just finished a month of recording at Grouse Lodge, County Westmeath in Ireland.
Describing the recording processes with producer Jacknife Lee, Moakes said: "I guess we had big ideas for this album and Jacknife has given them the green light and urged us to go further.

Bass player Gordon Moakes has revealed that they are currently working on up to twenty tracks including ‘Uniform’ which he describes as a “people pleaser”, ‘Atonement’ which he expects to be the albums centrepiece and ‘Wet’ which he says is a dance-floor feet mover.
Moakes says that the new material is set to surprise their fans, he told Rolling Stone: "There's always a danger that you can disappoint people when you do something different.
The four piece are currently looking for a producer having tried out several candidates with Moakes saying that they hope to meet someone that will aid their attempts to go in a more experimental direction.

Moakes declined to reveal the tentative album title, but he discussed a few tracks, including "Song for Clay" (inspired by the main character in the Bret Easton Ellis novel "Less Than Zero"), "Sunday" (which features Moakes playing drums) and "Waiting for the 7:18" (about waiting for a train).
A release date has yet to be determined, but Moakes expects the album to hit stores in the fall.

Kele Okereke (born October 13, 1981) is the vocalist and guitarist for English art rock band Bloc Party.
He and Russell Lissack formed Bloc Party (with former names such as Superheroes of BMX, The Angel Range, Diet, and Union) and later recruited Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong, respectively on bass and drums.
He met Lissack in 1998 in Essex, where Lissack had grown up and Okereke attended school.
