Gordon Murray (born 1946 in Durban, South Africa) is a renowned designer of Formula 1 race cars and the McLaren F1 roadcar.
Between 1973 and 1985 Murray’s Brabhams scored 22 Grand Prix wins, finished 2nd in Constructors’ Championship in 1975 and 1981 and gave Nelson Piquet Drivers’ Championships in 1981 and 1983.
In 1988 Murray’s McLaren Honda won 15 of the 16 Grands Prix, and gave Ayrton Senna his first Drivers' Championship.

Donald Walter Gordon Murray was born in 1894 in Oxford County, Ont. He graduated from medicine at the University of Toronto in 1921, and shortly thereafter spent several years in the United States and England in a self-imposed training program to become a surgeon.
Murray's surgical procedure was declared fraudulent and an ugly public scandal erupted at the exact time that Dr. Murray was in Ottawa receiving the Companion of the Order of Canada.

Murray, a professor of biological science who has taught at the university for more than three decades, is recognized as one of the world’s authorities in the field of phycology (the study of marine plants), intertidal ecology and coastal marine conservation.

Murray’s research and findings with his student Susan Frisch supported a bill passed by the Legislature that banned the sale and possession of several species of the seaweed, because of fears that these species could also spread rapidly and create large changes in marine bottom communities, like the “killer algae” C. taxifolia.

In 1946, Murray again attracted international attention by performing North America's first kidney dialysis, using an artificial kidney machine that he had invented in collaboration with Dr. Edmund Delorme of the Surgical Experimental Laboratory at the University of Edinburgh and chemist Newell Thomas of the University of Toronto.
Murray was praised for "passing on his discovery" to other hospitals and medical schools, and in July 1949 was chosen to deliver the first Simpson-Smith Memorial Lecture at the Hospital for Sick Children in London on the subject.
Gordon Murray remains a somewhat controversial figure, primarily for a lack of generosity in giving due credit to his colleagues that is noticeably at odds with the traditions established by Banting and Best and carried on by most of our other sample grantees.

That was Ryegate dairy farmer Gordon Murray’s belief when he sent a bag of cow manure in place of the usual milk shipment to the handler on Monday to protest low milk prices.
Murray dumped 2,800 pounds of milk out Monday rather than let it continue to be sold at such a low rate that he is barely able to survive.
To bring further attention to the situation, Murray hung an effigy of a farmer dressed in overalls dangling from a noose in front of his dairy barn with a sign stating, "USDA Hangs Farmers." The sign was referring to a recently announced delay in payments under the new U.S. Department of Agriculture national farm plan.
