Gordonia - Handsome floweringshrubs allied to Camellia, rare in gardens, and in the case of G. pubescens, extinct as a wild tree.
These come from the "Pine Barrens" of Virginia and Florida, a region of sandy peat-bogs made beautiful by dense thickets of Gordonia Lasianthus in every stage of growth, from that of a low shrub to trees of 70 feet or more.
I may, however, say that I have never seen Gordonia in flower but once, in a park in Philadelphia many years ago, and I doubt very much if any of them be hardy in this country.

The patient was a 31-year-old woman, who had undergone splenectomy, at age 9 years for severe double heterozygous hemoglobinopathy (beta-thalassemia and hemoglobin E disease).
At 1 year follow-up, the patient was not infected with Gordonia sp., and echocardiographic findings were consistent with mitral valve insufficiency without oscillating intracardiac mass on valve.
To accurately identify the organism, we analyzed the p-bromophenacyl esters of mycolic acids of the isolate by using high-performance liquid chromatography, obtaining a pattern consistent with that of Gordonia sp.
