Ethiopia is situated in the part of north-eastern Africa known as the Horn of Africa, sharing frontiers with the Sudan to the north and west, Djibouti to the north-east, Somalia to the south-east, and Kenya to the south.
Ethiopia has essentially three climatic zones: (a) a cool zone consisting of the central parts of the Western and Eastern section of the high plateaux, and the region around Harar with terrains generally about 2,400 metres, (b) a temperate zone between 1,500 and 2,400 metres, and (c) the hot lowlands below 1,500 metres.

 Haile Selassie I, Part 2
Ethiopia complained to the League of Nations, calling on the collective security agreements imbodied in the charter to be invoked and applied.
Ethiopia was depicted at the League as a savage and barbarous land where slavery and brutality were the common way of life, a land that did not deserve to be treated equally with "civilized countries".
Ethiopia was urged to find a way to accommodate the "civilizing influence" of Italy territorially in the Ogaden and even in Tigrai in the north.

Gore stumps with "World War 4" architect Woolsey | World War 4 Report
Gore laid out a host of ideas and innovations for curbing both greenhouse gasses and dependence on foreign oil, among them ratifying the Kyoto treaty to freeze carbon dioxide emissions and subsidizing Ford and GM to retool their factories to produce "flex fuel" hybrid cars.
Gore drew a big round of applause for his proposal to replace all payroll taxes with a tax on the pollution companies generate—a move that Gore said would be revenue-neutral but would penalize businesses for creating pollution rather than jobs.
Gore and Woolsey skipped off before the audience could pose more difficult questions about how we're supposed to afford all these groovy environmental initiatives while folks like Woolsey have sunk us in a quagmire in Iraq and are now gunning for attacks on Syria and Iran.

But the changes Gore favors go beyond the policy or political realm, because, according to him, we are in the midst not only of an "environmental crisis" but also a political "crisis," an information "crisis," an inner spiritual "crisis," and "a deep philosophical crisis." "We need to act now," he urges.
Gore may well be a good democrat; but it takes little imagination to see where his analysis could lead (as it indeed has in the "dysfunctional" totalitarian states of our century).
Gore would no doubt condemn (if he has not done so already) the eco-terrorists who recently set fire to a ski resort in Colorado in their desire to protect "wild and unroaded areas" or the "Unabomber," who killed and maimed to halt technology's spread.

Gore made a ghoulish riff out of his son's near-fatal car accident at the 1992 Democratic convention in New York (the son was sitting in the audience, so the cameras could cut back and forth from Gore to his subject).
What is noteworthy about Gore's family snapshots is that they involve death; when Bill Clinton enraptured journalists with tales of standing up to his drunkard stepfather, the stepfather, in the time frame of his telling, was alive and kicking.
Gore has identified the episode of his son's accident as the turning point of his life.

Gore stands in front of a graph showing the ups and downs of carbon dioxide over the centuries.
Gore says that although there is "100 percent agreement" among scientists, a database search of newspaper and magazine articles shows that 57 percent question the fact of global warming, while 43 percent support it.
These figures are the result, he says, of a disinformation campaign started in the 1990s by the energy industries to "reposition global warming as a debate." It is the same strategy used for years by the defenders of tobacco.
