  Gore-Bush Consortium Report
Gore won even if one doesn’t count the 15,000-25,000 votes that USA Today estimated Gore lost because of illegally designed “butterfly ballots,” or the hundreds of predominantly African-American voters who were falsely identified by the state as felons and turned away from the polls.
Gore won even if there’s no adjustment for George W. Bush’s windfall of about 290 votes from improperly counted military absentee ballots where lax standards were applied to Republican counties and strict standards to Democratic ones, a violation of fairness reported earlier by the Washington Post and the New York Times.
Gore might have eked out a victory if he had pursued in court a course like the one he publicly advocated when he called on the state to 'count all the votes,'" the New York Times wrote, with a clear suggestion that Gore was hypocritical as well as foolish.

He sought relief pursuant to §102.168(3)(c), which provides that "[r]eceipt of a number of illegal votes or rejection of a number of legal votes sufficient to change or place in doubt the result of the election" shall be grounds for a contest.
The State's Attorney General (who was supporting the Gore challenge) confirmed in oral argument here that never before the present election had a manual recount been conducted on the basis of the contention that "undervotes" should have been examined to determine voter intent.
That court engaged in permissible construction in determining that Gore had instituted a contest authorized by the state statute, and it proceeded to direct the trial judge to deal with that contest in the exercise of the discretionary powers generously conferred by Fla. Stat.

Wired 14.05: The Resurrection of Al Gore
Gore knew he would be pilloried for criticizing Bush on foreign soil, though he never could have predicted that a trigger-happy Dick Cheney would have blasted him, as it were, out of the headlines that week with even worse vice presidential news.
Central to Gore's philosophy are two inextricable beliefs: first, that "the world is facing a planetary emergency, a climate crisis that is without precedent in all of human history." Second, that "the conversation of democracy is broken." Fix the latter, Gore argues, and the chances of remedying the former improve dramatically.
Gore is fond of citing a maxim from psychologist Abraham Maslow: "If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail." The same principle, he says, applies to investing.

Leaders in the Death community for ten years strong, their brand of unholy, uncompromising and unparalleled filth have led the charge for generations of evil doers to learn from and build upon, yet no one's managed to come close to dethroning the reigning kings of desecration and doom.
"Gore Obsessed" is yet another prime example of their ritualistic terror caught on tape, featuring eleven more exhuming tracks in full blood-spurting, life draining splendor.
Visually reprehensible as is their wont, "Gore Obsessed" remains rooted in gratuitous violence, horrifically representing the fall of man and exploiting all his fears in a methodically unyielding swing of the axe.

Gore Obsessed is already their 8th album, and sincerely, since ex-Nevermore Pat O'Brien joined these New York sound butchers, their music has become not only faster, but also more technical...
The artwork is "disgusting" as ever, which has been a trademark of Cannibal Corpse since their very first album.
Although I don't mind a little bit of gore from time to time, I get the impression that most people will never appreciate the musical geniality of Cannibal Corpse because they don't even give them a chance, as they think it's just another dumb gore band.

However, Kernon did produce "Gore Obsessed" and I have to admit that he added some unique twists to their sound without turning it into something it isn't.
Finally, "Gore Obsessed" is well executed and the sequencing of the tracks is carefully thought out (can't say that about too many death metal CDs can you?).
"Gore Obsessed" isn't a difficult listen and is often downright enjoyable regardless of the subject matter and the band sticking to the tried and true.

Democrats Blew It On Social Security
Gore's idea was that the current annual surpluses coming into the Social Security accounts should be used to pay down the national debt.
Politically, Gore's strategists thought that by putting the Social Security reserves off budget and forcing George W. Bush to take the lockbox pledge, they would make it impossible for Bush to eat into the surplus with a large tax cut.
Worse, Gore's actual scheme was not a lockbox at all but an accounting gimmick.

And their latest full-length album, "Gore Obsessed," illustrates in shades of blood red why Cannibal Corpse deserve all these accolades, and more.
But with "Gore Obsessed," Cannibal Corpse create some of the most brutal and impressively extreme music of their careers.
There are tons of double bass and plenty of snare/ride blasts on "Gore Obsessed," and quite a few times when Mazurkiewicz shows more creativity than he has in the past.

Gore Obsessed is Cannibal Corpse’s 8th full-on studio LP and it is a real beast, even for a genre such as death metal.
The production on Gore Obsessed is handled by Cannibal Corpse’s new producer (Neil Kernon) who gives the album a crushing low-end and an overall meaty sound.
Gore Obsessed begins with “Savage Butchery,” a slaughterhouse of a metal song with incredibly fast drumming.

GORE OBSESSED returns Cannibal Corpse near the top of the death metal throne with a classic album that, while savage and disgusting in terms of wordplay, is a solid death metal masterpiece.
But Gore Obsessed and The Wretched Spawn are better in my humble opinion.
Gore Obessed is the start of the AWESOME Cannibal Corpse era to me, thanks to Kernon.

After winning an Oscar, Gore didn’t just sit around basking in his glory: He testified before Congress, promoted his global warming concert, Live Earth, and now he is bringing even more attention to climate change by kicking off the Tribeca Film Festival.
In a statement given Thursday night, Gore, who will host the opening night event, was singing (yes, in our minds he can sing, too) the praises of SOS, which is also behind Live Earth, according to Ecorazzi:
Given that we are mildly obsessed with Gore, we might just put on our “Gore is Our Hero” t-shirts and grab a tub of popcorn.

Politicians Sometimes Speak The Truth - CBS News
As the political world twists and turns waiting for Gore's '04 decision, most observers have portrayed the book tour as a setup for another presidential campaign or at least a re-entry onto the national stage to test the waters.
So Al Gore's friends, who've decided he really is selling his book, "Joined at the Heart," may not be helping the cause by telling The New York Times that he's not going to run.
Of course, Gore has said over and over that all he's doing is selling his book, "Joined at the Heart." Sometimes, if the cynical press would just accept politicians' words at face value they'd be surprised to see how much truth is really there.

The horror movie of death metal, goregrinders Cannibal Corpse continue on their speeding way with Gore Obsessed.
Gore Obsessed does have a five-minute plus song, ‘When Death Replaces Life’, making it a virtual epic alongside the two minute blasts like ‘Savage Butchery’, all the while guitarists Jack Owen and Pat O’Brien attack their guitars with the spunk of a Fear Factor contestant chewing on a Monkey’s triceps.
Singer George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher has done a fine job of taking over the spewing and bile spitting cookie monster vocal attack that was once helmed by Chris Barnes (now in Six Feet Under) making Gore Obsessed a captivating listen as many other bands within the genre struggle to find their own heart.

Pundits base sweeping judgments on total trivia. Remember Gore's troubling polo shirts?
For many pundits, Gore’s polo shirts and khaki pants somehow exposed his strange “character flaws.” In TNR, Crowley drew absurd conclusions from the fact that Kerry likes to play the guitar.
Gore was “wearing polo shirts twenty-four hours a day,” he complained on his October 6, 1999 program.
For the record, Gore never campaigned in a “three-button sweater.” Williams had his Official Press Talking-Points confused—he was supposed to feign concern about Gore’s three-button suits (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 8/14/02) At any rate, confronted with a ludicrous question, Turque knew the Preferred Press Reply:

Now I can pick out phrases here and there without even looking at the liner notes; songs like "Dormant Bodies Bursting" and "Sanded Faceless" are worth being enjoyed to the fullest.
The production of Gore Obsessed isn't any great leap from past albums, but anything else would be blasphemous (ha, ha).

The Sentinel, remember, was the paper that first uncovered the hidden cache of valid, uncounted "overvotes" -- seemingly double-voted ballots that, as the massive media recount of Florida has now confirmed, were the key to a potential Gore victory, if only he had known it.
It has been widely assumed that the real-life, statewide recount of Florida votes that was ordered by the Florida Supreme Court a year a go -- and then abruptly stopped by the U.S. Supreme Court -- was also limited to undervotes.
Any recount, even if it put Gore ahead, would have been chaotic and disputed, as this Sentinel companion story suggests.

CoC : Cannibal Corpse - Gore Obsessed : Review
I'm not saying that _Gore Obsessed_ is a bad album -- it's full of 100% typical Cannibal Corpse material, but it fails to leave almost any impression at all due to a lack of more than a few outstanding moments.
For fans of Corpsegrinder-era Cannibal Corpse, _Gore Obsessed_ is definitely a must, but in the death metal world of 2002 I do not see why anyone else would feel the need to buy this record.
With this said, _Gore Obsessed_ remains a thoroughly enjoyable chuck of growling, blasting and surgically mean musical manslaughter assaults, an adrenaline-laced discharge of bellowing, seething death metal hate, with outstanding technicality to boot.

This lineup eventually recorded a split CD with the Ohio band Hemdale, In the Name of Gore, which came out on Visceral Productions in 1995 and featured an absolutely revolting album cover.
With this lineup intact, they signed to Relapse Records and finally released their first official full-length, Gore Metal, in 1998, with guitarist James Murphy (Death, Obituary) at the production helm.
Sewage left the band shortly after this record, leaving the trio of Harvey, Beams, and Jones to record the follow-up, Slaughtercult.

With GORE OBSESSED introducing future classics "Sanded Faceless", "Hung And Bled", "When Death Replaces Life" and "Dormant Bodies Bursting", CANNIBAL CORPSE have buried any and all possibility of being dethroned as the reigning purveyors of aural gore and sonic splatter.
