  Considered Dead Review | Gorguts | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
Gorguts' sound on their debut was nothing far exceeding the patented form laid down by floridian bands like Deicide and Obituary, yet this is still a must for fans of old-school death metal.
Even though "Considered Dead" is but a shadow of Gorguts' later glory at the helm of the avant-garde death metal scene, the entire album is a crushing tour de force, ranging from full on extremity to soft but eerie acoustic interludes which are very expertly written.
Gorguts would have to be put in league with Atrocity and Suffocation in terms of brutality and musicianship.

Gorguts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gorguts is a technical death metal band from Quebec, Canada.
Gorguts was formed in 1989 by Luc Lemay (vocals), Sylvain Marcoux (guitar), Eric Giguere (bass) and Stephane Provencher (drums).
Their album Obscura is considered to be one of the most complex and chaotic death metal creations, partially due to the bizarre, multi-layered dissonant harmonies and partially because the lengths of the individual riffs can make their patterns difficult to pick out on a first listen.

Gorguts : The Erosion of Sanity - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Canadian death metal troupe Gorguts delivered their second album, The Erosion of Sanity, in 1993, and given the general approval accorded their excellent debut two years earlier, expectations for this new effort to supersede it were understandably high.
In other words, Gorguts were probably just trying to evolve with the times, but in their case such evolution met with slightly less than satisfactory results -- a point driven home by the scant eight songs summoned for The Erosion of Sanity.
Gorguts would eventually return half a decade hence, but in a significantly altered form that also failed to advance their career.

There is absolutely no denying the greatness of Gorguts, so if you haven't already heard them, be sure to pick up the 2-for-1 release immediately, plus Obscura and From Wisdom To Hate, just be aware that there is a major difference in songwriting, style and structure between Erosion Of Sanity and Obscura.

 Gorguts - Death Metal
Obviously cautious after the ambitious and for some unlistenable "Obscura," Gorguts proceed with a fusion of current death metal, older styles for this band, and the more communicative ideas from experimentation on the previous album.
Knowledge integrated, new output produced: smoothly connected, memorable in distinctive songwriting individual to each tune, of enlightened backend conception and melodic-thematic integration while of foreground conscious of the listener: physical motion evocative intricacy of thunderous code iterating the cycles of equilibrium in existence, should one choose to remain a conscious being.
While to the ear trained in current music this may seem on the edge of unlistenable, to those with an aural line to the future this is the pure beauty of open potential waiting to explode.

"Obscura" was the point where Gorguts seemed to break through the barriers of "acceptable experimentation" and really become eclectic, with out-of-control vocals, hazardous dissonance and an alien technical edge.

If you were anywhere in the vicinity of the Planet Metal when "Obscura" was released, you'd know that GORGUTS broke ALL the rules on that album, crafting an almost impossible-to-conceive offering that the music world had never been subjected to before.
It saw the band introducing large quantities of guitar scrapes and shrieks and squeals, sounding like beleaguered screams from a parallel dimension, intertwined in an endless fray of idiosyncratic riffs that simply cannot be classified as "this" or "that".
The whole point, I guess, is that it's not all meant to be understood, GORGUTS is about destroying those egocentric barriers we keep up that help us decide what our ears should be hearing.
