Gorilla Grodd was mentioned in passing by the character Nightshade in the episode titled "Deadly Nightshade" of the live action Flash TV series from the early 90's.

Gorillas as villains seemed silly to me. (Unless they were cyborgs with bottled brains in Hellboy!) Like it or not, Gorillas seem to run rampant in the Justice League universe.
Grodd’s first appearance in “The Brave and the Bold” didn’t do much for me, but I loved his part in “Secret Society.”; That clinched the deal.
Grodd’s head is higher on his chest than UH, so I crammed aluminum foil into UH’s neck hole (to fill the chest cavity), then layered on epoxy putty (and later, modeling paste) to create a smooth and solid upper torso.

In this issue, Gorilla City gets a revamp and a new character that is right in line with the way its been presented in the past while also being undeniably new, and Johns proves himself as probably one of the best Gorilla Grodd writers ever as well.
The double-page splash of Gorilla City by Kolins stands out as one of the most memorable visuals in an already-memorable run, and I love the mixture of technology and tribal tradition, animal instinct and sentient will that defines the gorillas of Gorilla City.
The end of the Grodd confrontation could easily have been unsatisfying, especially given the harsh consequences for Hunter, were it not so easy to sympathize with Nnamdi and the others of Gorilla City.

Johns seems to promise the return of one of the Flashes most infamous enemies, and Gorilla Grodd certainly does return, it’s just that at first the confusion as to what or who Grodd really is seems to take away from his punch as a character.
Grodd was at first very confusing to me due to the multiple gorillas on the scene at the beginning of the story.
This is explained, but not soon enough in the story for me. The explanation seems somewhat corny/campy, the monkey king returns to rule the world as his own, and left me thinking it was lacking any depth.
