The album is an Enhanced CD that includes a short movie and access to Murdoc's Winnebago via a download at murdocswinnebago.com, which is now acessible by just going on the Kong Studios online tour.
The album was released in various countries in 2001.

Gorillaz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gorillaz is a virtual band, comprised of four fictional animated band members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel.
In the winter of 1999 Murdoc acquired the property of Kong Studios, a sprawling haunted studio with a rather shady history, situated atop a hill in the midst of a run-down cemetery and landfill in Districtshire, Essex.
The visual element of the evenings was provided by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett and displayed on screens on the stage, and the artists performed in front of the screens, with Damon Albarn in silhouette form for most of the concert (unlike previous concerts, where the musicians were behind the screens, with only sihlouettes visible).

Gorillaz were first introduced to the world consciousness by Damon Albarn of Blur fame and Tank Girl creator Jamie Hewlett with the 2000 debut album, "Gorillaz," which went on to sell in excess of six million copies worldwide.
Gorillaz was never meant to be anything more than an in-joke novelty act, a literal cartoon band that was supposed to let Damon Albarn and Dan the Automator goof off in the studio together.

But 2005 is a much different year than 2001, and if Gorillaz exuded the heady, optimistic, future-forward vibes of the turn of the millennium, Demon Days is as theatrically foreboding as its title, one of the few pop records made since 9/11 that captures the eerie unease of living in the 21st century.
It not only eclipses the first Gorillaz album, which in itself was a terrific record, but stands alongside the best Blur albums, providing a tonal touchstone for this decade the way Parklife did for the '90s.

Gorillaz debuted in late 2000 with the Tomorrow Comes Today EP, which they followed early the next year with the Clint Eastwood single; their self-titled full-length debut arrived in spring 2001.
Gorillaz was a massive worldwide success and achieved platinum-level sales in the U.S. The group's svengalis were quick to capitalize, and released the B-sides collection G-Sides, the Phase One: Celebrity Takedown DVD, and the dub-inspired remix album Laika Come Home in 2002.
When he was ready to begin the next Gorillaz album, Albarn turned to Danger Mouse, the DJ behind The Grey Album, the infamous mash-up of the Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album, and a host of other collaborators, including De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Debbie Harry, Dennis Hopper, and Martina Topley-Bird.

For me a good album is when you hear tracks like for a milion times, and then when you put on the CD couple of years later you can still get the goose flesh.Maybe the time will tell.
Unfortunately, I don't think the album was really worth the money I paid for it as it is. Some of the ideas and experimentations on it are good, some should have been dropped, but they ALL could have been worked on and developed more than they were (yes, even 'feel good inc.').

Gorillaz : Gorillaz - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Admittedly, Hewlett's edgy-cute characterizations of 2-D, Gorillaz' pretty boy singer (who looks a cross between the Charlatans' Tim Burgess and Sonic the Hedgehog), sinister bassist Murdoc, whiz-kid guitarist Noodle, and b-boy drummer Russel are so arresting that they almost detract from Gorillaz' music.
And initially, Gorillaz' self-titled debut feels incomplete when Hewlett's imagery is removed; the concept of Gorillaz as a virtual band doesn't hold up as well when you can't see the virtual bandmembers.
Musically, however, Gorillaz is a cutely caricatured blend of Albarn's eclectic Brit-pop and Nakamura's equally wide-ranging hip-hop, and it sounds almost as good as the band looks.

Gorillaz are different from everything I've been hearing on the radio and the telly, and to some people that would be a bad thing.
And I agree with the lyric writing - on this album (not to mention thinktank or the 1st Gorillaz album or its TWO spinoff ripoff releases of recycled music - the dub album and b-sides release) he reduces the lyrics to the sheer state of words that rhyme.
I would admit that the debut album was simplistic in nature, though catchy and genuinely moody with a good variety of seasonings and spices, and once again, unlike anything being done in pop music at the time.

Fortunately, Gorillaz provides Albarn an outlet to vent his taste for sci-fi kitsch, and satiate his urge to break free from rock with guitars-- and it's a surprisingly successful outlet, at that.
For most of the album, Danger Mouse & Albarn make like they're Dario Argento & Goblin, to the point that this Fangoria neophyte can't tell the difference between the sampled zombie-flick scores and the facsimile ones (I'm pretty sure "Last Living Souls" is the former).
In fact, if the Gorillaz concept achieves anything beyond keeping Hewlett employed and producing some snazzy videos and websites, it's proving that Albarn can successfully wield the sonic toys he's mostly kept partitioned apart from his flesh band.

It is strange to think that initially it had not been planned to release the Gorillaz album in the US, but when US radio and television started picking up on Clint Eastwood the album was released as soon as possible, with two 'purchase incentive' B-sides tagged on the end before the hidden track.
When 19/2000 became successful in the UK and Europe, the album was reissued with the Soulchild Remix of the song, and the Ed Case Refix of Clint Eastwood was taken into the main listed tracklisting (although inexplicably it was the edit, not the full version of the song, that appeared on these reissues).
More exotic versions of the album include the Asian two and three CD editions featuring much enhanced content, and the French double CD version which remains the only place the full version of 'The Sounder' was released commercially.
