 Goring Gap Boat Club
The Goring Gap Boat Club was founded in 1991 by a small group who enjoyed messing about on the river but who realised that most people who live in Goring and Streatley do not have access to one of the most beautiful reaches of the Thames.
The centrepeice of the club's activity is the annual Goring and Streatley Regatta, which combines fun racing (for all the family) with live entertainment, a fun fair, food, craft fairs and much more.
No previous experience is required, and we provide tuition to new members.

 Goring Gap Health Walks
Goring Gap Health Walks are part of a UK wide Walking for Health Initiative run by the Countryside Agency and one of the most successful WHI groups in the country.
Just to whet your appetite, here are two pictures taken from near the BBOWT reserve and Gatehampton looking north west along the Thames towards the villages with Streatley Hill in the distance.

Goring is the site of two locks for navigation of the river Thames, the first at Goring itself and the other a little way north at Cleeve.
Goring lies in what is now known as "The Goring Gap", with Goring on one side of the river Thames, and Streatley on the other.
It is believed that there have been settlements at Goring for thousands of years, certainly it was an important junction in Roman times, when the Icknield Way met the Ridgeway at the point where the Thames could be forged at Goring.

Please NOTE it will be signposted, but Goring Heath is NOT Goring on Thames.

The Thames walk follows the south Bank under the Reading Bridge to Caversham Bridge to Tilehurst, Purley over Mapledurham Lock to the beautiful village of Panghourne and then Whitchurch passing Basildon Park onto Goring and Streatley.
This section of the Thames Path takes you past the junction with the Kennet and Avon Canal and into an extremely beautiful section of the river heading towards Henley.
The Ridgeway Explorer Bus services runs from Reading in April to October and enables you to explore the historic Ridgeway National Trail, the Thames Path and the places of interests close to them.

On 19 September 1943 the first Annual General Meeting of the Goring Thames Sailing Club was held at the "Temple" boat house situated on Cleeve Reach.
The building shown on the right hand side is the Goring Thames Sailing Club's Sail Hut.
A further 3 clubs took part in sailing matches against Goring: Abbey Sailing Club, Dorchester Sailing Club and Merlin team races were held up at Farmoor Reservoir at Oxford Sailing Club.

 About the Goring Gap
The village of Goring (population 3500) is sited on the east bank (Oxfordshire) of the Thames while the smaller village of Streatley (population 600) is on the west bank (Berkshire).
The 'Goring Gap' is the name given to the place where the River Thames passes between the North Wessex Downs (to the south west) and the Chiltern Hills (to the north east).
The villages are joined by a pair of arched bridges (in centre of the picture above) with lattice fencing from which tourists and residents enjoy some of the most picturesque views of the weirs and Goring Lock.

Short stroll by the Goring bank (0.5 miles circular walk, views of the Thames at Goring, passing the art shop, 20 minutes easy walking)
Taking the pavement at this point allows you to walk back into Goring village on the road you drove in on.
Carry on along the footpath by the river bank and shortly before reaching the bridge you will find you can turn right to head back into Goring.

 The Thames Path - Cholsey to Dorchester
On Sundays Thames Travel service 137 runs once every 2 hours from Dorchester to Clifton Hampden, Culham and Abingdon and to Shillingford, Benson, RAF Benson and Wallingford, and also normally continues to Goring and Streatley railway station.
Thames Travel service 139 also runs hourly Monday - Saturday from Dorchester going to Shillingford and Wallingford to the south, and Berinsfield, Clifton Hampden, Culham and Abingdon to the north and west.
The Thames Path once again briefly leaves the river to pass through the lovely village of Shillingford, returning to the Thames just out of the village, and continuing to the edge of Dorchester.
