Kojima was just warming us up to the characters, enabling us to get to know them and the world they live in (which is fine, but it didn’t pull me into the story right away).
Koike and Kojima as the masters of storytelling that they are.
Kojima’s art is superbly detailed and full of emotion and raw talent.

Called Hanzo No Mon in Japan, this 15-volume story recounts the story of Hattori Hanzo, the fabled master ninja master whose duty it was to protect the shogun who was to unite Japan into one nation.
I’ve ran across mentions of this manga series on several occassions, but was never able to track down an English translation.
