These festivals attract several million visitors to the region and are the focus of cultural politics as towns and cities emphasise the distinct artistic styles of their festivals.
Recently revived, the festival in Goshogawara has fewer resources and the same floats may be paraded for two or three years in a row.
As opposed to the flat forms of the Hirosaki neputa, Goshogawara's tachi-nebuta ('standing nebuta') are made with construction methods similar to those used in Aomori City.

 About Tsugaru and Konan Railways
Since 1996, the company is in possession of new rolling stock composed of nice dark yellow diesel railcars (see photos) which are operating a rather frequent service but without regular times and not always in direct connections with the JR trains, the traffic being mostly local (shopping women, school children, etc...).
On the photo can also be seen a row of books in a shelve on the dashboard; this is a kind of library from which the passengers can take a book for reading during their trip.

Aomori City's Nebuta parade is no doubt the biggest and most famous, with Hirosaki's Neputa closely behind, but I'm a little more partial to Goshogawara's lesser known Tachi-Neputa, and it's 7 story high mega floats.
I like to think of last year's parade as the "Taishi-Neputa" since Steph's monk boyfriend at the time was kind enough to reserve a space along the route for us.
