Gothic metal pioneers and arguably one of the best and most influential rock bands Britain has ever produced, 2007 marks Yorkshire's kings of gloom Paradise Lost's nineteenth year, and heralds the coming of their eleventh album, 'In Requiem', on May 21st.
Their self-consciously controversial tactics set them apart from the British goth scene, having more to do with L.A. punk and heavy metal, and thus the band dubbed its sound "death rock" instead; however, their sensibility was ultimately similar enough that the "goth" designation stuck in the end.
While Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride got more attention from underground doom metal fans, Liverpool natives Anathema were just as important in creating a new strain of doom (sometimes referred to as doom/death) that drew heavily from atmospheric goth metal and, in the early days, featured gruff death-style vocals.

Finland seems to have a glut of mainstream-ish goth metal bands these days, and it's this field where Entwine dwell.
The closest comparison would probably be HIM or To/Die/For -- relatively simplistic song structures with a somber feel, featuring a midrange vocalist that at times conveys sadness and emotion quite well, though at times he sounds like he's trying just a bit too hard.
Gone, the second of their three albums thus far, occasionally suffers from saminess but is well constructed and should satisfy goth metal fans, with the more recent Time Of Despair reportedly of similar style.

Now, quite a few "arena goth" bands are starting to back off the goth imagery and establish themselves as regular rock bands which only proves how superficial the goth tag was when it comes to them.
The only thing those two goth divisions have in common is their inherent cheesiness, which is fine if you're into that sort of thing (which I am for the most part).
There's a maturity and sincerity to the feeling of the music that is in sharp contrast to the façade-fest that I've come to expect from anything with a goth tag.

i'm pretty surprised there are tons of goth metal fans in my country but virtually nobody listens to electro equivalents of that.
a lot of metal fans dont even give electronic music a chance because most everything is sequenced, theres no drummer, and you can't really "play" it live.
but a lot of metal guys ive met, usually in bands themselves, have echoed a similar pov about electronic music.

i agree with the above^^ partially...as they lack many goth elements such as death grunts and stuff, bu the themes of their songs are often of a gothic nature...
Goth is something else btw, something that started in the late 70s early 80s with bands like The Cure, Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of the Nephilim, Bauhaus etc.

Ahhhh, goth metal, the red-headed stepchild of metal; not heavy enough for true extreme metal heads, not goth enough for true goths.
While many goth metal acts tend to be far poppier, drippy and keyboard heavy, Embraze are actually faster, and more aggressive than many of their peers, with much more of a death metal influence.
While variety is the spice of life, sometimes variety isn't really needed and Lauri and co. should be able to carry themselves on the strength of his voice and their natural song writing skills rather than force other stuff in.

It seems that all goth metal band either broke up(crematory) or sold out(theatre of tragedy,anathema,paradise lost ect...).So is goth metal dead or are there still some good band around?
Goth metal is a word that works for so many shit bands (like Nightwish, H.I.M. etc.) and also for those that are no gothic (like Therion).
I hope not...because goth rock is dead...true ebm is dead...darkwave is dying(used to be good now it suck badly) and if goth metal die there will be no good "gothic" music anymore and the only thing we will hear in goth club will be be future pop and synth pop....beurk!

I like me some Gore Metal, but I feel the genre is long past its prime and there's very few bands left around to give it any credibility anymore.
Every so often the album will also delve into a pretty cool Black Metal romp that really adds character to their music, though these moments are few and far between.
I wouldn't recommend this to die hard Black Metal fans because there's just not enough of that genre in Stench Of Death's music to make you fully appreciate it, but I highly recommend it to the Death Metal fans.
