Gothabilly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gothabilly is a portmanteau which refers to the fusion of rockabilly music and the Goth culture.

 Ghoultown: Interviews
Could you please describe what Gothabilly is, what the history of that music is; which bands are the most important in the scene and why you chose to play Gothabilly.
There's not really any kind of exceptional gothabilly scene here in Texas, although one of the other bands who could fit that description, the Flametrick Subs, are from Austin which is about a 3 hour drive from where we live.
To me, gothabilly is just an umbrella term to describe bands who incorporate some elements of rockabilly, surf, country, rock and things like that who don't really have a clearly defined home.

 Urban Dictionary: gothabilly
Gothabilly comes from a blending of Gothic and Rockabilly.
The earliest use of the word Gothabilly was by The Cramps in the late 70s who used it to describe their own blend of somber, Rockabilly influenced punk.
Through in some elements from the retro culture revival, including stylized flames, 50s tattoo imagery and street-rods of every sort and you see where the aesthetic is heading.

Where as most Psychobilly songs are just fast punk songs with rockabilly chord progressions, Gothabilly adds different textures that wouldn't be there without the added gothic influence.
Also I like the term "Gothabilly" because it describes some of my favorite bands like Dave Vanian and the Phantom Chords and the Coffinshakers much better than the word "Psychobilly".

While some people refuse to accept that Gothabilly is a valid label for this particular genre of music-which is essentially Psychobilly with a campier aesthetic-I think that particular classification definitely applies to this record.
While The Final Adventures of the Krewman-which was released in 1991-isn't particularly innovative(what is?), but, it is a lot of fun, and very easy to get into most of the time.
Overall, while the material here does suffer from being a bit contrived and ingratiating the musicianship of the band members completely makes up for it's predictability.

This Chicago duo combines gothic blues guitars and slow drums with darkly incanted lyrics about graveyards, ghouls, and their netherworldly ilk."
A couple notable differences are the lack of "noisey-ness" and "tortured vocals" often associated with goth-rock, and therefore any conceivable incarnation of "gothabilly".
Creepabilly also differs from "Psychobilly" in that the focus of the music is not "how crazy you can get", but more "how creepy of an atmosphere is created", resulting often in tunes of a slighly slower tempo.
