Gothic, is a word that can be used today to describe "an obsession with the paranormal and fantastic, evil and distorted deeds and minds, first explored in the Gothic novel more than two hundred years ago.."(Grunenburg, 209).
Gothic has become what is lurking in the unknown realms, and in todays terms, what once was the gothic novel has been transformed into the gothic movie or television show, even life itself.
Gothic is here to stay and it is ready to embrace the world for another thousand years- the question is we ready to embrace gothic.

Later this obsession with death also gave more horror movies the title of gothic, but as the genres and of film expanded (or, given the speed at which the movie industry has developed perhaps a better word would be "exploded") the idea of "gothic" could be applied to any film from any genre.
As with literature, the key ingredients in a gothic movie are darkness, death or the immenence of death, and an atmosphere of underlying fear or paranoia.
It is essential to the understanding of a gothic film to realise that the director very rarely intends them to be viewed as gothic, and therefore the judgement is in the hands of the viewer.

Well, not exactly a masterpiece, this movie tried, but failed, to be a match for it’s medieval ancestor.
Anyway, as a conclusion: Is a “I wished to be a gothic movie”, B movie (which cost 20 million USD!), with well known actors and “actors”, which can be used as a perfect companion to a nice, junk food dinner, among friends sharing the same “silly” mood.
The movie was pathetic, Christoph Lambert sucked (as usual), it was supposed to be the metaphor of an epic poem and not a futuristic adventure.

Gothic isn't the masterpiece of excess that The Lair of the White Worm is, but towards the last half-hour it does achieve a creepy state of disorientation entirely suited to its subject matter.
I have the suspicion that this movie probably is well-loved by most intelligent Goths and well-read people with a love of Gothic literature to begin with, so if you're expecting the usual blood and gore of traditional horror films, please move on.
