Gothmog (Third Age) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gothmog is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fictional universe.
This is the only reference in The Lord of the Rings to Gothmog, and his fate is not recorded, although it is strongly implied that he and almost all of the servants of Sauron that fought before the gates of Minas Tirith were destroyed.
It would seem that the Gothmog of the Third Age had taken, or been given, the name in memory of Morgoth's captain; an interesting choice, perhaps, since Sauron and the Lord of Balrogs were presumably rivals for Morgoth's favour during the Elder Days.

Gothmog's first major achievement was the death of Fëanor upon the confines of Dor Daedaloth, the land of Morgoth (literally the land of shadowy abhorrence).
Gothmog came forth to Fingon, and the guard of the son of Fingolfin was slain, and a great fight ensued between the two.
The third and final deed of Gothmog was the assault of Gondolin, where Ecthelion of the Fountain was slain and where Gothmog died at last at his han.

Gothmog is mentioned precisely once in The Lord of the Rings, and we're given absolutely no clues about his race.
The idea of Gothmog being an Orc seems rather less likely, but even that possibility cannot be dismissed.
The name Gothmog was originally given to a mighty Balrog of the Elder Days, one of the greatest servants of Morgoth the first Dark Lord.

Gothmog on Warg sits very differently from the previous equine riders, with the warg at a relatively low center of gravity- its snapping jaws situated only about two inches above the base- contributing again to the very unique feel of the sculpture.
Gothmog's arrogant smirk is immortalized with precision; lifelike eyes peer out from under his instantly recognizable mounds of Merrick inspired deformity.
Without a doubt, Gothmog on Warg makes for a dashing addition to the existing steed and rider ensemble and would make a rather nice inclusion to the stable of any Lord of the Rings collector.

 Debate #1: Gothmog
Gothmog: Added to that is the fact that we don't really know what, if any defenses major UFP planetary systems have, etc. Its essentially impossible to simulate a war between two non-existent entities (unless we are the creators of those entities) whose full capabilities and infrastructures we know next to nothing about.
Gothmog: If you were actually concerned about the tenor or the quality of the debate, the "grandiosity" of it or the "reality" of it would be immaterial, and I find that the details ARE relevent, especially when its already been stipulated that at the grand scale, its not actually much of a contest.
Gothmog: If you have problems with those that think that it would be, then perhaps you need to debate one of those who holds that position, if they are foolish enough to agree to do so (and given some of their positions and arguments, there may be some willing to do it).

Gothmog was the son of Melkor/Morgoth, truly the leader of the Balrogs, the Captain of Angband (Sauron was only Morgoth's wimpy lieutenant) and he did have a fell hammer.
Gothmog, originally conceived as the son of Morgoth, although Tolkien later changed his mind, was the High Captain of Angband and Morgoth's most supreme lieutenant.
Gothmog ("Hateful Enemy") - the chief of the Balrogs and Warlord of Angband was a hideous manifestation of ire and darkness, forever tied to the terrible legacy of Melkor.
