It is bounded on the north by the Cannon River; on the east by Cannon Falls township; south by Warsaw and west by Sciota in Dakota County.
The township is now exclusively occupied by the Norwegian people, who, since their advent here nearly 23 years ago, have made rapid strides in agricultural and other improvements that Wanamingo township is now the leading farming township of the county.
Among the early pioneers of this township and county is William Boothroyd, a native of England, who settled in Red Wing in 1851, where he resided until 1858; settled in this township in 1866 and on his present estate, being the largest landholder in the town.

This enterprising farmer was born September 22, 1839, is a native of this township, and son of William and Elizabeth (Reed) Hunter, natives of Pennsylvania and Delaware respectively.
The father died in 1827; the mother with her children moved to this County in 1828, and died in Crawford Township in 1845, leaving the farm to her son, Charles M., who added to the same and gave his attention to general agriculture and the raising of fine sheep, in which he was quite successful.

Authorities say a student brought a rifle to school and shot himself to death Tuesday at Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania.
All students were moved to an adjacent middle school and all the district’s schools were locked down, said Laura Feller, a spokeswoman for the Springfield Township School District.
The township police station is next-door to the high school and officers were on the scene almost immediately, Feller said.
