Important sights are the Cavern in the hill of Ai-Giorgi near in Kilkis, the ancient Evropos in Goumenissa and the lake in Drosato.
The capital Kilkis is an important commercial and agricultural centre while it worth visit the archaeological and martial museum, with discoveries from the prefecture and memories from Kilkis battle on 19-22 June 1913.
Goumenissa is a graphic town, eminent for the wine and the raki.

Goumenissa: It’s a small picturesque town situated at the foot of mount Paiko (1650m.) and was formerly an important commercial center due to the viniculture but also the sericulture.
The vineyard: Goumenissa is one of the A.O.C. greek zones producing red dry wines and consists of the red grape varieties Xynomavro and Negoska.
In the Goumenissa region the white grape variety Roditis is also cultivated.

 Museums of Macedonia, Greece — Macedonian Folklore Museum
In 1991, Christos and Katerina Alevras set up a folklore museum in Goumenissa, a picturesque little town in Kilkis prefecture 85 km from Thessaloniki.
It is housed in a new two-storey building on the road from Goumenissa to the nearby village of Grivas, and its purpose is to preserve the folk tradition and culture and initiate the younger generation into the secrets and beauties of folk culture.
On the ground floor are displayed folk costumes — men’s and women’s formal and everyday wear — from all over Macedonia, including Sarakatsan and Thracian costumes and the uniform of a Macedonian freedom fighter.

 Welcome to Wine Roads of Northern Greece
This area includes the municipality of Goumenissa and the communities of Filyria, Stathi, Gorgopi, Karpi, Griva, Pentalofos, Polypetro and Gerakona in the Kilkis prefecture.
The red varieties of Xinomavro and Negoska are grown in most of the area's vineyards, on about 200 hectares that extend to the eastern slopes of Mount Paiko and to hills with slight inclines, at an altitude of over 150m.
It is left to mature for at least a year in small oak barrels and is deep-coloured with a fruity bouquet and supple taste.

If you are speaking about the Kilkis area (or Kukush) i agree (although with exception such Goumenissa).
But eastwards the map is purely nationalistic: Serres was almost purely greek,and the whole Thrace was inhabited by Greeks and Turks,not Bulgarians.
And also the territories around Kilkis, Edesa, Kastoria, Florina, Gianitsa and Goumenissa was settled mainly with bulgarians(or slavophones if you want).

There is so much fantastic dance/music/tradition material in the Goumenissa area that is waiting to be researched.
In "Halkina ths Goumenissas" CD with Vaggelis Gevgelis Brass band, there are recordings of Bella Olympia, Lissavo and Vrysi mou petrokamari, which is mistakenly written as Raiko, all in Greek.
I believe that Vassipap records should have at least written that these are a free approach and not sign on the back "all songs are traditional" which is totally misleading.

Neither would I, unless of course, I'd tasted them, and liked them, and they didn't cost too much.
