Marie's City was the largest site of the original Maryland colony, and was the seat of state government until just before the beginning of the 18th century (when the government was moved to Annapolis).
The government was moved at about the same time as the persecution of Maryland Catholics by Puritans from Virginia; during the persecutions, all of the original Catholic churches of southern Maryland were burned down.
Maryland's major Interstate Highways include I-95, which enters the northeast portion of the state, goes through Baltimore, and becomes the Capital Beltway to the Woodow Wilson Bridge.

Almost immediately after the treaty was signed, the Maryland House of Delegates and an influential group of citizens of Annapolis invited Congress to make that city the seat of government for the independent United States which was temporarily accepted.
Marylanders, like other colonists, were shocked into action by the news of bloodshed at Lexington and Concord and of the battle between the British Regulars and colonial troops at Bunker Hill.
In the meantime, in Bush Maryland which was located on Old Philadelphia Road and through which many of the representatives to the Continental Congress including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson passed on their way, colonist began to voice their dissatisfaction with English rule and their desire for independence.
