Estonia’s success in bringing inflation down from the high rates experienced in the early 1990s is a direct result of the country’s currency board, which restricts the government’s ability to print money.
The government requires licenses for investment in banking, mining, gas and water supply or related structures, railroads and transport, energy, and communications networks, but this requirement does not restrict investment and is applied in a routine, evenhanded manner.

The independence of the Republic of Estonia was de facto restored one year after the insignia of independent Estonia were reinstated, and the new state was admitted to the United Nations on 17 September, 1991.
