Government (from West Bengal) --  Encyclopædia Britannica
It is bounded by Sikkim state and Bhutan on the north, Assam state on the east, Nepal on the west, and the continuation of West Bengal state on the south.
The word government is derived from a Greek verb meaning “to pilot a ship.” It is a fitting derivation, since, in metaphorical terms, it is the responsibility of government to steer the “ship of state.” Governments have been a part of human history for thousands of years.

The East Bengal Refugees   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
In 1981, the Government of West Bengal estimated the total number of displaced people from East Bengal in the State to be about 80 lakh.
The ‘unending trail’ of migration began roughly with the Partition of Bengal, though it was precluded by increasing trends towards communal separatism in the years processing the transfer of power, with violence in Calcutta, Bihar and the Noakhali -Tipperah Districts as early as 1946.
Resettlement in West Bengal and Calcutta since the 1960s was, by definition, self-settlement, and shrinking resources tended to make marginalization a persistent condition for ‘new migrants’.

The Left Front Government of West Bengal came in for criticism for banning the Bangladeshi author, Taslima Nasreen's autobiographical work, Dwikhandita, by the author herself and a host of authors here today.
Nasreen said the State Government's decision to ban Dwikhandita came as a shock as she had least expected such a reaction from an administration that claims to be "progressive."
Talking to The Hindu later, she was equally scathing in her criticism of fellow authors of West Bengal who "ganged up" against her to force the ban on Dwikhandita.

The Indian government, as a state party, should intervene in the forced evictions taken place in West Bengal and give all possible assistance to the victims to ensure their right to life.
The Government of West Bengal and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation did not give any notice of eviction to the residents and did not consider the legal status of the affected families who have been residing in that place for 40-50 years.
As previous evictions, the administration mobilized heavily armed policemen and paramilitary forces and they destroyed the houses of the families while the men were absent for their work and only the women and children were left to face the brunt of the violent evictions.

It should be noted that in addition to the 1947 Partition and the Bangladeshi War of Independence’s 1971 partition of East Pakistan and West Pakistan into Bangladesh and Pakistan, Bengal suffered another wrenching “partition” in the twentieth century —Lord Curzon’s 1905 partition of Bengal (then a British province) into East Bengal and West Bengal.
Britain reunified Bengal in 1911, but the provinces of Bihar and Orissa were created out of Bengali land and the central government’s capital was moved from Calcutta to Delhi, to be renamed New Delhi.
