  Pitcairn Government
Pitcairn Island, claimed by the United Kingdom as one of its "Overseas Territories," was previous to 2002 claimed as a "Dependant Territory" of the United Kingdom.
It is governed from the United Kingdom by an appointed Governor whose offices are in Wellington, New Zealand.
This governance without full consultation has resulted in an exacerbation of tension, the Pitcairn people feeling that their culture and remote island conditions need to be carefully factored into any law or regulation that affects them.

The Pitcairn Islands (Pitkern : Pitkern Ailen) are a group of four islands, of which only Pitcairn Island — the second largest — is inhabited, in the southern Pacific Ocean, the only remaining British colony in the Pacific.
The islands are best known for being the home of the descendants of the Bounty mutineers and the Tahitians who accompanied them, an event retold in numerous books and films.
With only about fifty inhabitants (from nine families), Pitcairn is also famed for being the least populated country in the world (although it is not a sovereign nation).
