 Siemens: Canadian Literary Awards and Prizes, from The Encyclopedia of Literature in Canada
Launched by the Canadian Authors Association and administered by the CAA until 1971, the awards were at first non-monetary prizes; the prestige of the prizes was complemented by a small cash award of $250 in 1951, to be increased in 1966 to $2,500, in 1975 to $5,000, and in 1989 to $10,000.
First awarded in 1976, and suspended as of 1995, this prize ($3,000 and a 4-week author's tour of the other country) is intended to familiarize the reading audience of each sponsoring country with the writers of the other.
Awarded, variously, for excellence in poetry, prose, and drama, as well as for young writers; the last year of presentation was 1995.

In addition to winning another Governor General's Award for fiction in 1992, it earned Ondaatje a share of the prestigious Booker Prize, the first ever awarded to a Canadian.

The Governor's Guards, subject to the provisions of their charters and of the general statutes as to organization, training and discipline, shall be organized militia, with the immunities and privileges provided by law, and, in time of war, invasion, rebellion or riot or reasonable apprehension thereof, may be ordered out by the Governor for duty.
The Adjutant General shall issue an appropriate service ribbon to all members of the unit declared to be the outstanding company-size unit in the Connecticut National Guard in accordance with National Guard regulations, provided such members participated in at least fifty per cent of the unit's training activities during the period covered by the award.
The Adjutant General may make such regulations pertaining to the preparation and rendering of reports and returns and to the care and preservation of public property as in his opinion the conditions demand, such regulations to be operative and in force when promulgated in the form of general orders, circulars or circular letters.
