Romance author and lifetime Mainer Janet Chapman was born in northern Maine and lives now in a log home on a lake in Glenburn, Maine, with her husband and sons.
Born in Blue Hill, a 1909 Univ. of Maine graduate, with a Ph.D. in English from the Univ. of Minnesota, 1922, and honorary degrees from the Univ. of Maine, 1928; Bowdoin, 1933; Colby College, 1937; Northeastern University, 1947; and Smith College, 1949.
Maine Public TV also provides biographical information on Chute as well as excerpts from her works and a list of her favourite books.

The current national co-chairman of the Green Party of the United States and the party’s national vice presidential candidate in 2004, LaMarche ran as a Green for governor in Maine in 1998 and secured 7 percent of the vote.
Seven years since her previous run for governor, LaMarche maintained that Maine’s political landscape has changed and that the Green Independent Party is here to stay.
The candidate’s brief presentation Thursday was short on details of what she hopes to accomplish as governor other than that she would develop platforms to address jobs, health care, education and tax reform.
