Jeff Buckley: Grace: Legacy Edition: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
As it happened, Grace was received with mixed feelings from critics who probably thought they were getting the next great alt-rock savior, and instead felt they'd received dinner theater for the moody crowd.
His posthumous releases suggest what Grace did: that he was one of the most talented musicians of his generation, while also being one of the most impulsive and, often, maddeningly inconsistent.
Grace remains one of the most engaging, inspired records ever made, and its 10 original songs serve as the best possible portrait of Buckley as a diva, songwriter and artist.

An extended version of the album was released in 2004; Grace (Legacy Edition).

BBC - Classic Rock/Pop Review - Jeff Buckley, Grace (Legacy Edition)
The Legacy edition is an absolute must, for the gorgeous liner notes, the DVD and the extra tracks, not to mention the legendary 'Forget Her'.
This new Legacy edition includes Forget Her which is heart wrenchingly beautiful, but don't waste time reading the reviews - open your ears and listen to Grace, open up your soul and let it soar...
Grace is a beautiful albumn that illicits emotion like nothing i have ever come across in music, he was a genius and Grace shows not only how eclectic and talented his music was but also how amazing his voice was.

F5: Wichita's Alt News   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
But best among all of those tunes is the poignant "Forget Her," a tune of the kind that some spend careers trying to write and one that Buckley pulled from the album's original release.
Also included is a DVD featuring a short film,The Making Of Grace, expanded to include new interviews with band members and producer Andy Wallace, plus videos for four tunes from the album itself, plus a clip for the previously unreleased "Forget Her." The documentary isn't as unequivocally poignant as you might expect.
Still, no matter what you coming away thinking of Buckley the man, whether you choose to adopt the mythology or not, nothing can take away from his musical legacy, which is as impressive and intact today as it was when he passed.

The London Line : A visit too far to the vault of a genius
Jeff Buckley was the estranged son of acclaimed folk singer/songwriter Tim Buckley, and although he only met him a handful of times, Jeff inherited the multi-octave vocal range and spirit of musical adventure that his father had displayed, until a heroin overdose cut his life short at 28.
The result was an astounding blend of styles - from the ethereal Lilac Wine to the exultant title track, and from the Eastern-tinged Dream Brother to the delicate reading of Leonard Cohen's Halleluja, Buckley's voice flowed throughout, an unassailable emotional core navigating the listener through the light and shadow of this masterpiece.
While completists will be compelled to add this edition to their collections, novices would be better off to run (not walk) to get the original of Grace, and discover it afresh without the excess baggage.

slant // magazine.com: Eternal Life: A Jeff Buckley Retrospective
Sinuous and smooth, sharp and serrated, Grace is possibly the most sensuous album to have emerged in the aftermath of grunge, without doubt the least sexy of all musical sub-genres.
And indeed, his posthumous live recordings (2000's Mystery White Boy and Live At l'Olympia) depict a musician who is restlessly—some may say recklessly—intent on delivering a truly unique experience night after night, eschewing the safe route in favor of stretching his band, his material, and of course his voice to their outermost limits.
The album, which is hands down the most comprehensive and intimate collection of live Buckley recordings to date, captures the folk movement of the East Village that was still flourishing in the early part of the decade—it's an artifact left over from when there were more artists on St. Mark's than fast food joints.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of his debut album Grace, Columbia Records released a three-disc set, including the original album, 12 outtakes, and a DVD that includes a documentary on the making of Grace and five videos.
It is unfortunate, not because fans jealously hang on every note he sings, but because the Legacy Edition is limited in its ability to truly capture his fragile genius.
Some of the tracks contained on the Legacy Edition are culled from previous compilations and EPs; so many buyers will already have them.

Frankly, I don't have the ears to tell if this remastered version of Grace is a sonic improvement over the original or not, but hell, I'll take any excuse to write about one of my all-time favorite records.
The third disk is a DVD that collects the music videos for Grace, including fancy performance clips for "Grace" and "Last Goodbye," a ridiculous concept video for "So Real" (it's not any worse than most mid-90s music videos, but still…) and a live "Eternal Life" from the performance documented on the Live in Chicago DVD.
Previously unseen footage of Buckley in the studio and on tour is also brought together for a clip for "Forget Her." Even better, though, is "The Making of Grace," an unbearably short documentary that was originally produced for Grace's electronic press kit, now updated with recent interviews with producer Andy Wallace and Buckley's former bandmates.

Must-hear moments include the mesmerising Forget Her (almost included on Grace but bumped in favour of So Real), the billowing soul-gospel of I Want Someone Badly, Buckley's disarming readings of Dylan's Mama, You Been on My Mind and Hank Williams's Lost Highway, and the nu-metal premonition of the "road version" of Eternal Life.
