Grace Archer née Fairbrother (April 2, 1930 – September 22, 1955) was a fictional character in the BBC's long-running radio soap, The Archers, and was one of the original characters.
Grace was the daughter of a wealthy English family who fell in love with Phil Archer, the son of a farmer.
Grace ran into the burning barn to try and save her friend's horse and, as she searched, a burning beam broke and crashed onto her, trapping her.

The Archers is set in the fictional Midlands village of Ambridge close to Borchester, in the county of Borsetshire, an imaginary county situated between the (actually contiguous) real counties of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, south of Birmingham in the West Midlands.
Killing off Grace Archer was widely seen as a "spoiler" by the BBC; the cast had realised something was going on when the decision was made to record the episodes in London rather than Birmingham, and the episode was broadcast on the night of ITV's debut.
Grace Archer (Monica Gray and Ysanne Churchman) was Phil Archer's first wife and the first major character to be killed off.

Then there was a scene where Grace and Phil were going to hospital in the ambulance, and listeners heard her say, “Phil, I love you, Phil.” The programme ended with Phil breaking the news that Grace had died in his arms.
So Grace Archer, nee Fairbrother, has gone the way of all good heroes and heroines, and kicked the proverbial bucket.
