Gradius - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gradius was released in North America and Europe as Nemesis.
While this is a well-known feature among Gradius fans, many video game enthusiasts more closely associate the Konami Code with the NES version of Contra, a later Konami game in which the code can be entered at the title screen to grant the player 30 lives.
The first level of Gradius is available as a mini-game in the Super NES game Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Gradius II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gradius II never saw availability in North America until the release of Gradius Collection for the PlayStation Portable, instead, the Life Force conversion of the spin-off title Salamander was marketed as the sequel to Gradius.
Gradius II has kept the famous gameplay from the original game, but infused it with enhancements brought from the spin-off, Salamander, and the Japanese arcade release of Life Force.
Gradius II was later re-released in the Gradius Deluxe Pack for the Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Microsoft Windows in 1996.

 GradiusV
Gradius V fits this mold perfectly, with new options features, simultaneous 2 player action, beautiful visuals and an excellent soundtrack that should please fans of the original series, while keeping things fresh for younger players.
Gradius V keeps the series traditional structure of Speed-Ups, missiles, double weapons, lasers, options and force fields, but there are a few twists in the weapons themselves.
Gradius V also includes multiple difficulty settings where you can use the easier levels to practice your maneuvers and get a feel for the controls.

 Gradius V Review
The Gradius series, which originated on the days of the NES has gone through only at most minor changes from the original formula.
Gradius V doesn't try to do anything to appeal to the general class of gamers out there.
The problem with Gradius V isn't that it's not a good shooter, it's that its designed only to appeal to people who like that sort of thing.

 Gradius Review
Gradius was one of the first games to introduce the premise of the lone spaceship versus the big alien army.
Gradius also has, quite possibly, the lamest final boss in the history of video games.
Gradius is not a game I really like to play over and over a lot, but sometimes I replay it just to see if I can still beat it without using the codes, or for nostalgic reasons.

 Gradius V (ps2: 2004): Reviews
Gradius V may not reinvent the wheel that is the space shooter, but it refines it to near perfection.
Gradius V's particular brand of hard-boiled shooting mayhem is so intense that it can keep you breathlessly entertained for as long as your extra lives don't run out.
The only downside is that there isn’t as much to Gradius V as there is to some of its competition (R-Type Final, for example) in terms of variation and replay value, but the key element of Gradius V is its challenging and fun gameplay.

 Gradius 3 and 4 (PS2) - Review - Gradius
Gradius III from way back in 1990, and the more recent Gradius IV which appeared in the arcades in 1999.
Gradius 3 looks identical to how I remember it, which isn't surprising really because rather than porting the game they seemed to have emulated the original arcade version, with some terrible results.
Gradius IV doesn't have this feature, which leaves you battling through the first few levels over-and-over, which as you can imagine gets pretty gosh darn tedious after a while.

Kikizo Games: PSP Review: Gradius Collection (Page 2)
While the original Gradius understandably sports graphics and sounds that are quite dated compared to later games in the series, and gameplay that's a little limited by repetitive boss battles and only a single default power-up type, still, the game is good solid fun throughout its 7 levels.
Gradius II brought enhanced graphics and sounds to the table, as well as began the evolutionary process of the series' power-up system by presenting players with the option to select different types of power-ups at the start of the game.
With all that said, Gradius IV isn't a bad game by any means, but unfortunately, it's the one game in the series where you can't help but feel as if Konami either got lazy or just ran out of ideas as the game didn't really bring anything new to the proverbial table.

Gradius 3 was released first as a nearly impossible arcade title in 1989, and then into a much easier and more enjoyable SNES cart in 1990.
Gradius 3 on the Super Nintendo was always a personal favorite of mine, but when Gradius IV came out, it was somewhat of a disappointment.
Gradius V might be a little shorter in terms of the series, with 8 stages (one of the stages is actually a replay of a previous stage).

Gradius Gaiden for PlayStation Review - PlayStation Gradius Gaiden Review
Konami's got a great thing going in Gradius - shooters are a dying breed these days, and not many companies can keep a series as consistent as Gradius has been over the past 17 years.
That brings us to Gradius Gaiden, which is a step in a different direction for a series that has gained Konami notoriety as a master of shooter design.
Speaking of familiar faces, the enemies and bosses in Gradius Gaiden are a mixed bag of old and new.

Gradius Review - Superbusnet.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The result was one of the best selling shooting games in history, and a series that lives on to this day, with the recently released Gradius V for PS2, a game so hard, the words I used while playing it would get me kicked out of most religions.
Gradius's very basic story is that you pilot the Vic Viper, and you're on a mission to save your home planet by destroying the hoardes of enemies sent out by the Bacterion, going through six levels until taking on the Bacterion itself.
As it stands, even back when this game was new, the music didn't stand out much, and put against other NES games of later years, it doesn't match up as well.

 WORTHPLAYING - - All about games !
Gradius is slower and more methodical; Ikaruga throws the world at you and expects you to solve puzzles while you dodge said world.
It’s more subtle than the older Gradius games, but fits well, and there are even a few remixed treats in there for longitme fans—specifically, the Life Force boss theme and the Big Core fight theme from the original Gradius.
Gradius V is easy to pick up, and tough to master; which is a hallmark of any good game.

 IGN: Gradius
The goal of Gradius is the same of any shooter -- destroy everything on-screen.
But Gradius makes this formula fresh by offering a then (and still) innovative special weapons select that allows you to upgrade your ship on the fly.
Gradius even includes the "options" that flank your ship on each side, blasting out the same weapons your craft uses.

Gradius instead gives you a list of your power-ups along the bottom of the screen, and as you pick up power-up icons the cursor moves down the list of possible upgrades.
Now in Gradius V you can use the Option Control button to take a bit of control over your Options, or Multiples as they are called in Gradius V. Four Multiple types are available in the beginning: Rotate, Freeze, Spacing, and Direction.
Gradius V makes a lovely addition to the shooter family, and expands on the Gradius formula while sticking to its roots.

 Gradius 3 and 4 Deluxe Pack - PS2 - Konami 2000
It's the first time arcade Gradius 3 has had a 'proper' home port (though the SNES version was admirably close it suffered from appalling slow-down at times as well as leaving out a lot of features and some stages) but the real star of the show is obviously Gradius 4.
The opening level for example is a polygonised re-hash of Gradius 2's opening 'Solar Flare' stage complete with swirling fire-dragons (well they are PSX2 rendered 'metallic' gold ones this time) and 'morphing' dragon end-of-stage boss but the effect really is one of deja vu.
There is also a rerun of the Gradius 2 stage where you had to guide your ship through slamming doors in alien complex while trying to keep up with the nerve-janglingly fast on-screen scrolling.
