Two years afterwards, on the recommendation of Gronovius, he was chosen to succeed that scholar at Deventer; in 1662 he was translated to the University of Utrecht, where he occupied first the chair of rhetoric, and from 1667 until his death, that of history and politics.

John George Graevius, professor at Utrecht and the foremost Latin scholar of the day, was about to issue an edition of Callimachus; and Bentley undertook to collect for this work all the fragments of Callimachus extant in Greek literature.
Graevius, who had read the Epistola ad Millium with the keenest enthusiasm, expected much of Bentley and got even more than he expected.
For Bentley discovered twice as many fragments as had been previously known; his metrical knowledge enabled him, in many cases, to correct them where corrupt; and his penetration could often point out the relation of one fragment to another.

Sheets of Brucker lightly browned and foxed, blank slip neatly pasted over old library stamp on verso of Graevius title, noting in pencil that the volume is a duplicate.
Graevius (1632-1703) was a distinguished philologist and classical scholar.
The work by Brucker appears to be quite rare, at least outside of Germany: RLIN and OCLC together record a number of copies of the Graevius but only a single copy of the Brucker (at Northwestern) and it is not in COPAC.

BookRags: The Works of Samuel Johnson, Volume 06 Summary
In the university he was committed to the care of the learned Graevius, whose regard for his father inclined him to superintend his studies with more than common attention, which was soon confirmed and increased by his discoveries of the genius of his pupil, and his observation of his diligence.
Animated by the encouragement of a tutor so celebrated, he continued the vigour of his application, and, for several years, not only attended the lectures of Graevius, but made use of every other opportunity of improvement, with such diligence as might justly be expected to produce an uncommon proficiency.
Having thus attained a sufficient degree of classical knowledge to qualify him for inquiries into other sciences, he applied himself to the study of the law, and published a dissertation, de Vicesima Haereditatum, which he publickly defended, under the professor Van Muyden, with such learning and eloquence, as procured him great applause.
