Tech Digest: Monday interview: BT futurologist Graham Whitehead on why intelligent agents will roam in your connected ...
Talk to a futurologist like Graham Whitehead, who works for BT Exact, the research arm of BT.
Whitehead gives the example of a TV agent.
Whitehead's vision is of a more benign form of opt-in advertising - the logical conclusion of current promotions where, say, Amazon might send you an email every so often alerting you to a new book by an author whose titles you've bought in the past.

Whitehead, Alfred   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
During the Montreal years, Whitehead became the acknowledged leader of the city's Protestant church music, and his Cathedral Singers (Montreal) were chosen by Wilfrid Pelletier to perform major works of Bach with the orchestra of the CSM in 1936 at the inception of the Montreal Festivals and also at subsequent festivals.
Whitehead was a distinguished recitalist, but his finest playing was in the accompaniment of the church service.
Whitehead was an internationally recognized authority on some aspects of philately, and just before his death he completed the preparation of a third edition of his book, first published in the 1950s, The Squared-Circle Cancellations of Canada.

Higman   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Graham Higman is the second son of the Reverend Joseph Higman.
Higman's tutor was Henry Whitehead and it took a while before he realised that Higman was a natural pure mathematician since most students on a natural sciences scholarship would only take mathematics courses to support their science studies.
It is not surprising that at this early stage in his career he was unsuccessful, but Henry Whitehead encouraged him to return to Oxford rather than to seek a chair at a second rate place.

Metaphysical Principles and the Category of the Ultimate
Whitehead’s method of the working hypothesis, according to which philosophy begins with the observation of particular experience and the tentative formulation of its general features, testifies to the fact that the Category of the Ultimate is Whitehead’s initially provisional statement of the ultimate or most general conditions for experience.
They are what Whitehead called the "more abstract things" which emerge from the more concrete things" (PR 30), the former being universals, or more accurately, patterns of eternal objects which it is the task of philosophy to explain, or in Whitehead’s more empirical manner of expression, to describe.
Two descriptions are required for an actual entity: (a) one which is analytical of its potentiality for ‘objectification’ in the becoming of other actual entities [i.e., the principle of relativity], and (b) another which is analytical of the process which constitutes its own becoming [i.e., the ontological principle].

Graham, who serves on the Southern Baptist Executive Committee, encouraged the use of strongly stated wording in a Sept. 19 resolution asking Baptist General Convention of Texas messengers to reject a proposed "unilateral breach" in the state's support of SBC missions and ministries.
During the Executive Committee deliberation Sept. 18, Graham said "a campaign of misinformation [is] going on in Texas," while SBC supporters in the state lack a "strong voice of getting to the churches" information about the vibrancy and effectiveness of Southern Baptist outreach across the country and around the world.
Whitehead acknowledged his frustration that the 102-page report of the BGCT theological education study committee often reported allegations without including the responses of the seminaries.

BT's Graham Whitehead has told the Irish Internet Association's Congress that the internet is dying, but that the future for broadband and networked technology is bright.
In a keynote speech during proceedings at Clontarf Castle, Dublin, BT Exact's principal consultant said that the anarchic and hazardous nature of the public internet meant that companies were now constructing supervised private IP networks.
Whitehead said technology would be driven by demographic changes in society, as the average household size falls towards one person per domestic unit and people turn to virtual communities for company and services.

Graham Whitehead has loaded his production with lots of nice little subtleties and a few jarring anachronisms, and what we wind up with is a fast-paced return visit to a play that still has the ability to make us laugh and learn.
In their supporting roles, Chris Vaglio is a hoot as the hearty Russian Kolenkhov, while Ben Tyler and Andrea Pruseau are fun as Tony’s parents who encounter this oddball family on one of their more entertaining evenings.
While it is understandable considering the size of the ensemble, Whitehead’s choice to double cast Pruseau as the Royal Olga later in the show does not work, as it is disconcerting to see her try to play the different character knowing full well her earlier entrance.
