Born in Dallas, he caught the blues fever from listening to the radio and old records, and was transformed by seeing Muddy Waters perform live as a teenager.
Vaughan developed his signature style, described best as "less is more" - sparse playing that allows for a gritty, emotive style - and has a reputation for letting simple lines do the talking.
It was a great album that combined the strengths of both brothers, but it was soon followed by tragedy with the untimely death of Stevie Ray.

The awards are for recordings released during the period of October 1, 1997 through September 30, 1998.
Buddy Guy will probably win Best Contemporary Blues Album, since he seems to win anything he is nominated for, but B.B. King's effort comprised of duets might just edge him out this time around.

The Blues Foundation today announced the nominees for the 21st Annual W.C. Handy Blues Awards, the highest honor bestowed upon artists in the Blues industry.
The awards will be presented on Thursday May 25, 2000 at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee, and will be followed by a two-day Blues Festival on Beale Street, "the home of the Blues".
The Blues Foundation, in Memphis, TN, the the prestigious institution responsible for the WC Handy Awards has announced the "Keeping the Blues Alive Awards." The awards are the highest attainable honor for non-performers in the Blues industry.

Kim Wilson is best known as a founding member of the influential American roots band The Fabulous Thunderbirds, a group he continues to lead for both recording and touring.
The album was recorded in two sessions at the beginning and end of 2002, the first with Steve Ramsey on drums, the second with Richard Innes.
The new album features nine songs either written or co-written by Wilson, including two versions of the title song, one done as a blues shuffle and the second as a rock n' roll tune.

Eminem, the controversial rapper who dominated headlines with his raps that bash gays and women, won best rap album and best rap solo performance for his album "The Marshall Mathers LP." Eminem was also given a Grammy for work performed on a Dr. Dre record.
Other awards went to Macy Gray for best female pop performance for her song "I Try," Radiohead for best alternative music album for "Kid A," and Destiny's Child for best R&B duo or group with vocal.
Loggins, nominated this year for best musical album for children, says the fuss surrounding Eminem is nothing new.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Blues singer Jimmy Witherspoon, a Grammy nominee whose trademark was his deep, smoky voice, has died at the age of 74.
He toured with guitarist Robben Ford and appeared at blues and jazz festivals until he had to undergo surgery for throat cancer in the mid 1980s.
Their ``Live at the Mint'' album was nominated for the 1995 Grammy Award for best traditional blues album.

Lowell Fulson is born on 31 March 1921 on a Choctaw Indian reservation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, his grandfather was a Choctaw.
He had his first R&B hit, 'Three O'Clock Blues', on the Swingtime label in 1948, then in 1949, he enlists the valuable help of pianist and songwriter Lloyd Glenn.
He continued touring and recording well into the 1990's, with albums for the European Record label and, most recently the Rounder and Bullseye Blues labels.
