Gramophones - Help from Ian Calderbank UK; HMV Sheraton Gramophone
A common opinion of the early 1900 Housewife was that Gramophones were ugly things and the Horn nothing but a dust trap, there are some Housewives that would agree with that today.
The Gramophone bears the Dog and Trumpet "HMV" transfer, this was not in general use on Gramophones until 1909.
One story I heard was that a Lord had his Butler push the Gramophone into the centre of the room (it is on castors); the Butler would take records from the Storage area at the front of the Gramophone and place the played records in the rear compartment for subsequent sorting.

Amazon.com: Gramophone: Magazines   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Gramophone has been published in England and elsewhere going back to the days of 78s and the gramophone, and it is still one of the leading classical music and equipment publications in the world.
GRAMOPHONE has been around as long as recordings have been available, informing the public about the new releases, providing cogent, intelligent reviews, giving the UK/European outlook on things musical, and in general being the bible for music review magazines.
In recent years it has added interviews with living composers and artists and others involved in music and in doing so it has been able to secure its position on the newsstands and in subscriptions when everyone seems to be ignoring the printed word and opting for ezines.

classical music - andante - gramophone record of the year finalists announced
Gramophone magazine has announced the six winners of its 2004 Gramophone Record Awards — each with its own knight or dame champion, a celebrity who will argue the merits of his/her chosen disc in a media campaign waged through the month of September.
In recent years, the Gramophone Awards presentation had become a gala event not unlike the Grammys, Oscars or BAFTAs, with thank-you speeches, performances by bona fide classical music stars, expensive evening wear and lots of promotional acitivities by the various record labels.
In early August, Gramophone announced this year's innovation: each of the six candidates for the 2004 Record of the Year prize now has a designated celebrity spokesperson who will promote the merits of his or her chosen disc on British television and radio and in the press.
