Recent reports have stated that Quebec’s Granby Zoo is looking into the possibility of creating a dolphinarium on the site, despite protests by both conservationists and animal rights activists.
Granby officials are defending their plan by saying that the aim will be to provide zootherapy, (a type of therapeutic interaction between people and animals.) Guests will be permitted to swim with the dolphins, for a fee of course.
Granby officials stated that they would be “using” dolphins already in captivity, and would not be taking any from the wild.

 Granby Zoo Reports a Successful Cleaning Switch
Granby Zoo, located just outside Montréal, Canada, reports that its experiment using certified-Green chemicals as an effective alternative to traditional cleaning chemicals has been a success.
Drolet reported that not only were the environmentally preferable products as effective as the traditional chemicals, but water use declined—because there was less rinsing—and the zoo’s cleaning workers did not need to wear as much protective gear.
According to Drolet, using Green Cleaning chemicals is only part of Granby Zoo’s strategy to make the facility healthier and more sustainable.

The lab is headed by National Zoo reproductive physiologist Janine Brown, a certified elephant-lover, and the Reproduction Advisor to the North American Elephant Taxon Advisory Group, and the Species Survival Plan, both run under the auspices of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Brown and her staff work with dozens of zoos across 40 states to conduct hormone evaluations to assess the reproductive status of more than 200 female elephants.
