Georgij Mikhailovitch of Russia, Georgij Mikhailovitch Romanov (born June 22, 1982) is the Heir apparent to the disputed Headship of the Imperial Family of Russia, and claims the titles Tsarevich and Grand Duke of Russia.
Georgij is technically the only person in the line of succession of his mother; in Semi-Salic law, if they are available, only the male-line descendants of the last female ruler are included in the line of succession.
At the time of Georgij's birth (as was until Vladimir's death), the official succession consisted of no one (George was only in "hidden" part of succession, not in the official line), since his mother was only heiress presumptive and a possibility of Drand Duke Vladimir siring a boy was not excluded, in principle.

The Russian Imperial Union-Order, as one of the oldest Russian monarchist organizations and in continuous existence since the 1920s, has acquired a detailed knowledge and familiarity with the present-day status of the Imperial House of Russia and with the laws determining who the Head of the Imperial House of Russia is.

V.A. Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology 1996 report
The aim of the further investigation was to finally resolve the ambiguity and to gain insight into the segregation of heteroplasmic mtDNA variants, through mtDNA testing of the skeletal remains of the closer relative - Grand Duke of Russia Georgij Romanov, the younger brother of Nicholas II, who died in 1899.
The main result is the following: heteroplasmic mtDNA mutation was detected in the mtDNA extracted from the remains of Grand Duke Georgij, providing that the mitochondrial DNA types of Georgij Romanov and presumed Nicholas II were demonstrated to be identical in terms of site polymorphisms and heteroplasmy.

Lake said, "We always expected Russia's journey to freedom to be uneven." But he said the administration would maintain a steady supportive stance "staying engaged with Russia" in what is "a new age of possibility but also of peril."
Building on earlier British studies, Weedn's team bolstered the case for the identification of Nicholas II's remains by taking a DNA sample in July 1994 from the corpse of his brother, Grand Duke Georgij, who died of tuberculosis in 1899.
Combining that finding with others -- including a genetic match between the czar's wife and her great-nephew, Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, who donated hair and blood to researchers -- produced odds of 130 million to 1 that the remains are those of Czar Nicholas and the Romanovs.
