  Grand Lodge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Grand Lodge, or "Grand Orient", is the usual governing body of "Craft", or "Blue Lodge", Freemasonry in a particular jurisdiction.
The head of a Grand Lodge is called the Grand Master, and the other officers of the Grand Lodge prefix "Grand" to the titles of Lodge officers.
While the United Grand Lodge of England, the Grand Lodge of Ireland and the Grand Lodge of Scotland each govern Freemasonry within their respective countries, Continental European countries typically have more than one Grand Lodge per country.

This culminated in the establishment of a Grand Lodge of Ireland in Dublin between 1723 and 1724, and the appointment of a Grand Master who was invariably a member of the nobility.
The Grand Lodge of Ireland was so disturbed by the course of events throughout the country during the latter part of the eighteenth century that warrants for new lodges were withheld, except on the recommendation of a magistrate.
His report to the Grand Lodge of Ireland, on the state of freemasonry throughout the country, recommended various amendments to the rules (bye-laws) of the Grand Lodge, one of which forbade discussion of any religious or political matters within lodges.

The Grand Lodge of Ireland is the second oldest in the world and the first evidence for its existence comes from the Dublin Weekly Journal of June 26th 1725.
In Dublin, Lodges were known to have met in the Yellow Lion on Werburgh Street, the Centaur Tavern on Fishamble Street, and the Eagle Tavern on Cork Hill, amongst others, and in Belfast meetings were held in the Sailor on Mill Street and the Donegall Anna.
The prevailing mood, in Ireland and elsewhere, is one of disillusionment and cynicism.

 Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland Rituals exposed
Grand Lodge immediately addressed the bewildering amount of unnecessary ritualism that had found its way into Orangeism, and here began a process of reform which purged out all the varying amount of neo-Masonic ritualistic baggage which had settled itself within the Order.
Whilst Grand Lodge undertook a widespread process of implementing simplification, their campaign of reform was hampered by the variation of ceremonies in certain parts of Ireland.
Grand Lodge stamped their authority upon the situation immediately, warning these renegades, "It having been reported by Several Gentlemen that in violation of the Rules of the Grand Orange lodge of Ireland, some Masters of Lodges in Dublin and elsewhere have initiated Orangemen into Systems which they term Black, Scarlet, etc. Resolved unanimously.

A Grand Lodge was formed by Lodges in Ireland in 1725; and in Scotland in 1736.

Draffen is at pains to say that, especially from the African Lodge point of view, the lodge remained under the Grand Lodge of England (and later under the United Grand Lodge) and were probably quite unaware of their erasure.
No private lodge under the jurisdiction of the premier Grand Lodge or the United Grand Lodge has ever had power to issue charters or warrants; neither has authority ever been given to a private lodge to issue dispensations or permits of any kind.
Whilst I am not prepared to question the activities of a lodge under the jurisdiction of Scotland I cannot help but feel that Fredericksburg also acted unconstitutionally and the fact that it constituted other lodges ought not to be quoted as a precedent for unconstitutional acts by a private lodge under the jurisdiction of England.

In fact the donation is the largest single Northern Ireland donation to Cancer Research, something which the Grand Master puts down to the generous nature and charitable outlook of Orange brethren and their supporters across Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic.

A number of proposals were put forward and a decision is expected when the Grand Lodge meets again on 11 March.
