AmericanRaceFan.com - Formula 1 - Villeneuve readies for Canadian Grand Prix
MONTREAL, Thursday, June 6, 2002 -- Formula One makes the first of two appearances in North America with the Canadian Grand Prix on June 9 in Montreal.
This Sunday's race, round eight of 17, is the home Grand Prix for 1995 Indianapolis 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve, who was born in St. Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec.
Win unlikely: Monaco Grand Prix winner David Coulthard does not believe his West McLaren-Mercedes will be as competitive on the low-downforce Montreal circuit as it was on the high downforce Monaco track.

 United States Grand Prix
I was looking forward to this year’s Canadian F1 race even more than usual because it now forms the first half of a fabulous F1 North American “double-header” as the United States Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway now takes place on the weekend after the Montreal event.
The evening was rounded out with a charity auction selling various bits of F1 memorabilia to raise money for the victims of the train bombings in Madrid and the Grand Prix Mechanics Trust.
Then in the 1980s, the Canadian race, now in Montreal in June, was followed by the U.S. Grand Prix in Detroit.

 ipedia.com: Montreal, Quebec Article
Montreal is the site of the Canadian Grand Prix, a Formula 1 auto race held annually at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Île Notre-Dame.
Some 27 suburbs as well as the former city were folded into several boroughs, named after their former cities or (in the case of parts of the former Montreal) districts.
The city of Montreal per se is home to about 1.6 million people, after the demerger referendum of June 2004, which has force of law on January 1, 2006.
