  Beastiemania.com - Beastie Q&A - A Record Label History of Grand Royal
The legend of Grand Royal is as multi-faceted as the Beastie Boys themselves.
It was never a gamble when one bought a record on the Grand Royal Records label by an artist they had never heard of, just the opposite: it was a safe bet that the artist would soon become a favorite in one's stereo.
Grand Royal bands like Bis and Buffalo Daughter would be sonic strangers one day and our best friends by the end of the week.

Glorious Noise - Back to Some Old Bull Shit
Founded in 1992 by arbiters of hip, The Beastie Boys, Grand Royal records set out to be the modern day equivalent of the Beatles' Apple Records—a safe haven for artists to create and market their work.
But I think Grand Royal could have been saved if, in the 90s when the Beasties and their Mothership were at their height, they could have established Grand Royal as a brand.
Grand Royal handles the marketing and promotion for the most part as well, since we know how to market our records better than most, and since we're spending our money (and the band's money), we try to spend where it counts.

Grand Royal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Grand Royal was the Los Angeles, California based record label set up in 1992 by The Beastie Boys in conjunction with Capitol Records after they left Def Jam Records.
Grand Royal was also the name of a magazine written and published by the band.
It was most famous for its article "Mulling Over The Mullet" in issue 2 which lampooned the mullet hairstyle (the Beastie Boys also recorded a song, Mullet Head, which was released on Grand Royal on their Sure Shot 12 inch single).

Alec Empire - Biography - AOL Music
Empire was often identified with (and pigeonholed because of) his ATR productions -- lo-fi breakbeats played at the speed of thrash that simultaneously embraced the energy of punk, the uncompromising ferocity of industrial music, and the futurism of techno.
A slightly more rock-oriented project, ATR nevertheless focused on the extreme: their political themes and screamed vocals were inspired by punk, but the music concentrated on acid synth and distorted breakbeats.
Grand Royal began releasing 7" singles by Empire, ATR, and EC8OR at the end of 1996.

 Chapter #1 Grand Chapter History
The Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia is sovereign only in the Province of Nova Scotia, and companions in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland were not asked to join in the original movement.
At the conclusion of the election of officers a Royal Arch Chapter was duly opened when the Honourable Alexander Keith was regularly installed as Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia by R.E. Companion Joseph Conway Brown, Principal Z of the Hiram Chapter, Goldenville, and Grand Superintendent under Canada.
The records of the time are silent as to why the titles of officers in use in England, Scotland and Canada, under which the three founding chapters were previously warranted, were dropped in favour of those used by chapters in the US.

The oldest Chapter of the Royal Arch is Stirling Rock, in Stirling, Scotland.
The "Moderns" denied the degree a place in Masonry, and a Grand and Royal Chapter arose that was separate from the Grand Lodge.
In England, the Royal Arch is still considered the completion of the 3rd degree, and remains under the control of the United Grand Lodge through the Supreme Grand Chapter, which organization is essentially a Committee of Grand Lodge, with the Craft Grand Officers simply wearing a different collar for the Grand Chapter meeting.

The one thing that confused me all through this album is, "where's the mainstream appeal in this?"
