I think Hootie Johnson described it best when he said something to the effect of, "I don't know if it's a Grand Slam, but it would be something grand." As big of a Tiger fan as I am, my opinion is that by definition, the feat cannot be considered the "Grand Slam".
There may be arguments that there isn't an official definition per se, that the Grand Slam is the sum of its parts, which is media and public consent.
The simultaneous holder of all four major tournaments is the holder of the Grand Slam of golf, no matter which tournament he won first.
