The Grand Turk is a replica of a three-masted 6th rate frigate, well known as the HMS Indefatigable from the TV series Hornblower, although the historical Indefatigable was a much bigger ship.
She is an authentic replica, based on historical drawings, of the frigate HMS Blandford built in 1741.
A frigate was not large enough and insufficiently heavily armed to fight in the "line of battle".

The Grand Turk was a perfect attraction for the historic harbour of Whitehaven and attracted thousands of visitors during it's stay.
Grand Turk was aptly named being built by Mike Turk in Turkey - originally for film work before being cast in the TV series Hornblower.
It is a replica of a 22 gun frigate but fortunately only one very small cannon was fired whilst in the harbour as this was sufficient to deafen those on-board and waken the entire town to its presence.

The Grand Turk, the first British frigate to be hand-built from wood for more than 140 years, made its screen debut in Horatio Hornblower in the starring role of the HMS Indefatigable.
The 152-foot, 22-cannon frigate was constructed by a team of forty Turkish boat builders on the beach in the Southern Turkish port of Marmaris, using traditional tools and more than 200 cubic meters of iroko (a wood similar to mahogany).
The Grand Turk was authentically rigged for sailing, but was also fitted with engines to facilitate the film work.
