Grangegorman is on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland.
Currently part of Grangegorman is been developed as the Grangegorman Campus.
The Grangegorman Campus is a €750 million education and health development by the Grangegorman Development Agency for Dublin Institute of Technology and the Health Service Executive (formerly the Eastern Regional Health Authority).

The Portico and Columns of the GPO have been built against an existing facade of the original Grangegorman Hospital.
As well as the famous Easter Uprising, the set was also used to film battle scenes from the Civil War in 1921; Eamon de Valera's famous Anti-Treaty speeches, and happier moments between Kitty Kiernan, Harry Boland and Michael Collins in 1918, during De Valera's return from English imprisonment.
The Grangegorman set is only one of over 80 locations the Michael Collins film used during the shoot.

The bin workers in Grangegorman mostly live in the areas around it and are sympatric to the campaign.
When the bin men at Grangegorman heard of this their shop steward came over to say how sorry they were it had happened.
Shortly afterwards news came through that in other depots bin workers who were refusing to break the blockades were being temporarily laid off, this happened to 2 in Dublin south and to 10 drivers at the Rathmines depot.

A meeting between several activists from several different local campaigns and political groups has called for a protest on Thursday evening at the Grangegorman depot, starting at 5 pm, during the city-centre commercial collection runs.
Meanwhile, the collection of commercial waste in the city centre continues uninterrupted from the Grangegorman depot.
Grangegorman is only a 10-minute walk from the four courts; an hour or two after work could go a long way towards the struggle to end this unjust tax.

An Interdepartmental Working Group was formed and it recommended that in the context of the strategic and pivotal nature of the site (73 acres) and the proposed co‑location of educational and health-related uses, an Integrated Urban Design and Land-use Framework Plan should be undertaken and that an agency should be established to co-ordinate the development.
The DIT is relocating to a single campus at Grangegorman in Dublin’s North inner-city.
The Grangegorman site extends to 73 acres and while the focus of the development will be on the creation of a state-of-the-art campus, there will also be a major health-related aspect on site.

Dean Lyons, the heroin addict who was wrongly accused of murdering and mutilating two women in Grangegorman psychiatric hospital in 1997, died in Manchester last Thursday, aged 27.
Dean Lyons, who was living rough in the Grangegorman area at the time of the murders of Sylvia Shields, 59, and Mary Callinan, 61, in March 1997, was arrested and taken to the Bridewell Garda Station in July of that year.
Less than a month later, a young Roscommon couple were stabbed to death in a manner similar to the Grangegorman murders.

Subsequently, the DIT searched around and identified St. Brendan's in Grangegorman where the Eastern Health Board was divesting itself of many of the institutional care buildings as some patients were moved into the community, etc. Approximately 70 acres of land were surplus to the needs of the health board and the DIT considered acquiring them.
It appears an agreement with the health board was reached in principle for the transfer of the land for approximately £10 million.
The Grangegorman lands are adjacent to Bolton Street college and Linen Hall and could be quickly linked to the faculty.

The first step in this process was an evening picket of Grangegorman depot, an idea suggested from the floor at a public meeting and called with the Cabra campaign and supported by people all over the city area.
Numbers were obviously lower due to the short notice, but the Council workers were very sympathetic to the campaign and their reluctance to break the blockades ensured their success.
And, as we go to press, 48 people closed down Grangegorman depot for an evening (Oct 28th) and further blockades were held at depots around South County Dublin on October 29th.

Cabragh Lane, or, as we know it, Prussia Street, to which latter name it was changed in 1765, in honour of Frederick, King of Prussia, led to Cabragh, the ancient seat of the Segrave family, which place was afterwards inhabited by Lord Norbury, of notorious memory.
We learn from M'Gregor's picture of Dublin that the first stone of this building was laid by the Duke of Richmond in 1812, presenting a front of 700 feet to Grangegorman Lane, is in depth about 400, and covers an area of three acres; the estimated cost of its erection was about £40,000.
Before passing away from Grangegorman the story, as narrated by Burton, of "Billy in the Bowl" must not be omitted.

The Garda has reportedly issued a public apology to the family of a man who was wrongly arrested and charged in connection with the 1997 Grangegorman murders.
Dean Lyons, a 24-year-old homeless man and heroin addict, was arrested shortly after 59-year-old Sylvia Sheils and 61-year-old Mary Callinan were brutally stabbed to death at a psychiatric hospital in the Grangegorman area of Dublin in March 1997.
Nash was later convicted of the couple's murders, but Mr Lyons spent another seven months in prison before gardaí admitted that his confession for the Grangegorman killings was false.

Mark Nash, originally from England, admitted to the GrangeGorman Cannibal Murders, after he was arrested for the murders of the Rosscommon couple Catherine and Carl Doyle 16th Aug 1997; yet he has never been brought before the courts to answer on these charges!!!!!!!!!
Dean Lyons, who was living rough in the Grangegorman area at the time, was arrested on July 25th and taken to the Bridewell Garda station.
His statements, which have been seen by The Irish Times, contain accurate detail about the Grangegorman murders including descriptions of the interior of the house and the way both women were killed.

An independent inquiry is to be launched into how innocent drug addict Dean Lyons confessed to the brutal double murder of two women in their Dublin home, it emerged today.
The charges were dropped without reason, and the murder investigation and arrest were the subjects of an internal garda inquiry, the conclusions of which have never been made public.
The minister said it was an unusual case because Mr Lyons had repeated his false confession on a number of occasions while in custody.

A new multi-million euro development in Grangegorman in Dublin is to include a rehabilitation unit for mental health patients and a purpose-built village complex for people with intellectual disabilities.
Details of the new facilities were released to coincide with the publication of the Grangegorman Development Agency Bill.
This new legislation provides for the establishment of a development agency, which will act on behalf of the Dublin Institute of Technology, the Eastern Regional Health Authorities, the Northern Area Health Board (NAHB) and other relevant government departments.

As the criminal investigation into the murders is still ongoing and no person has to date been convicted in connection with them, the release of the report of any examination of the conduct of the investigation would be inappropriate at this stage.
I am further informed by the Garda authorities that a forensic review is currently being conducted by staff at the forensic science laboratory on exhibits and samples taken from the scene of the murders at Grangegorman.
I sought and have received advice from the Attorney General regarding requests which were made to establish a public inquiry into this case.

The local solidarity blockades have been very good but only a couple have had sufficent numbers to give people enough 'safety in numbers' to give their names to the police.
However, as far as I know, the Grangegorman protest is not necessarily going to be a blockade.
If there is only a small turnout, there is no point in being a martyr and I'd advise people to do nothing that might get them dragged up to the high court.

This year the festival will mark the re-opening of the church after a major restoration and conservation programme which has been designed to return the interior of the church to the condition in which it was before the fire of 1965.
All Saints' Church was built on the Phibsborough Road in 1828 and served the newly formed parish of Grangegorman which had been created out of the parishes of St Michan and St Paul.
Its early years were dominated by William Maturin and Henry Hogan, successively incumbents from 1843 to 1923, who were the personification of the church's tractarian tradition and its attention to high liturgical standards.
