She was always depicted as an elderly and old-fashioned spinster who wore spectacles (with many of the gags involving her blindness without them), a gray bun, and a late 19th century school marm outfit.
Although she was almost always shown onscreen with her two animal companions, Granny could occasionally be seen in an animated short without them.
For example, in the 1953 short, Hare Trimmed, she starred as a woman who was being fought over by two suitors, (Click link for more info and facts about Yosemite Sam) Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny.

Looney Tunes is a Warner Brothers cartoon series that preceded the Merrie Melodies series, and is both WB's first animated theatrical series and the second longest continuous animated series in any medium.
Also, from 1934 to 1943 Merrie Melodies were produced in color and Looney Tunes in fl and white; after 1943, however, both series were produced in color; the only real difference between the two series was in the variation between the opening theme music and titles.
The Looney Tunes series' popularity was strengthened even more when the shorts began airing on network and syndicated television in the mid-to-late 1950s under various titles and formats.

Bosko was Looney Tunes' first major star, but when he moved over to MGM in an entirely different incarnation, Buddy took his place.
The original Looney Tunes theatrical series ran from 1930 to 1969 (the last short being Bugged By A Bee).
Theatrical animated shorts then went dormant until 1987 when new shorts were made to introduce Looney Tunes to a new generation of audiences (new shorts have been produced and released sporadically since then).

 The Looney Tunes Television Specials
However, the beloved characters of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies had enduring adult appeal, and with the popularity of prime-time television variety specials in the mid-1970s, it must have seemed fitting to network programmers that the greatest "showmen" in animated cartoon history should return to prime-time television for their own special performances.
Granny and Bugs go through the Warner Brothers production lot, visiting the sets where cartoon characters are acting in their classic roles in such famous cartoons as "Hillbilly Hare" and "Knighty Knight Bugs" or screening their prior work in "Tweety's Circus" and "Birds Anonymous".
Several of the specials are watchable as showcases for the vintage cartoons, and it is fun to think about how thematically similar cartoon shorts could be packaged and to ponder on why certain films were used and others were not, in the assembling of these specials.

But the new Looney Tunes seems to owe more to the old Mad Magazine than to the great Looney Tunes tradition of the 1940s and 1950s, when Bugs, Daffy and co. were at their absolute peak.
This DVD features takeoffs of various television shows in the style of Mad Magazine -- it's Looney Tunes in one sense, but in another sense, it just isn't.
