Screentalk DVD Review - Good Night, and Good Luck
Heslov & Clooney don't cloud their movie with too many characters or sets (it rarely leaves the studio), and, consequently, keep the audience focused on where it needs to concentrate.
Heslov & Clooney use one of Murrow's later speeches to bookend the piece and it's clearly a pointed attack on the current atmosphere of journalistic don't-ask-don't-tell, where the American public has become so immune to bad journalism that they don't even really know what the good stuff looks like.
Grant Heslov & George Clooney would have made their subject proud.

Not quite as popcorn-throwing wow-worthy shrunk down to TV size, but it's fun nonetheless.
But like "The Mummy" before it, "The Scorpion King" is often deliberately derivative -- an homage of sorts to all its genre predecessors -- and it's never to be taken seriously.
How could it be with its scenery-chewing baddies, its sissified, sniveling, snarky comic-relief sidekick (Grant Heslov in an unfortunate Arab stereotype role), and its crazy inventor crony (Bernard Hill) who conveniently comes up with the formula for gunpowder just when the good guys could use an explosion or two?

World Wrestling Federation star the Rock) stars as Mathayus, an Akkadian assassin in the age preceding Egyptian pharaohs, who vows to avenge his brother's murder by an undefeated warlord (Steven Brand) prophesied to become the desert-ruling Scorpion King.
Their battle for supremacy comprises most of the film's brisk 95-minute running time, punctuated by comic relief from Mathayus's obligatory sidekick (Grant Heslov), romance with a beautiful sorceress (Kelly Hu), and alliance with a massive Nubian (Michael Clarke Duncan) on the eve of their climactic showdown.
There's no rhyme or reason to the film's depiction of ancient civilization (the costuming is particularly ludicrous), but the Rock demonstrates adequate action-star potential, and director Chuck Russell (The Mask) wraps it all in a slick, professional package.
