Grant Parish holds a strategic location in relation to the topography, climate and scenic attractions of the state of Louisiana because of its position near the center of the state.
Since the early history of the parish, the chief factors influencing its growth have been its streams, waterways, pine forests, and its strategic location at the "crossroads of Louisiana." Early industries in Grant Parish were tobacco, indigo, cotton and sugar, with markets in Montgomery and Pineville.
The parish, formed from portions of Winn Parish on the north and Rapides Parish on the south, bears the name of the general and president, Ulysses S. Grant.

In 1763, the land that is now Rapides Parish became the new home of Apalachee indians fleeing the British and their Creek indian allies from what is now from Leon County, Florida.
Rapides Parish was formed in 1807 by the government of the Orleans Territory.
In the parish the population was spread out with 27.20% under the age of 18, 9.50% from 18 to 24, 27.90% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 13.10% who were 65 years of age or older.

 Tensas Parish receives grant to help form emergency 911 center
A $100,000 loan and $50,000 in Tensas Parish money will be used with the grant to build the dispatch center, Rick Foster said.
Foster, who heads the Tensas Parish Office of Emergency Management, is heading up a committee to make the 911 center a reality.
A Homeland Security grant has already been secured to pay for the new equipment once the building is in place.

Act 832 of the 1989 Louisiana Legislature’s Regular Session was enacted to require any person placed on probation or with a suspended sentence for conviction of a violation of the controlled dangerous substance law to pay a fee of not less than $50 nor more than $100 payable to the LCLE.
The monies available in the fund are used exclusively by the LCLE to administer a grant program to assist local public and private non-profit agencies involved in drug abuse prevention programs.
Through the Drug Education and Prevention Fund, grants have been made available to the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Training Center which provides training to police officers across the state, in the D.A.R.E program to aid in the fight against drug abuse.
