		The Grass Roots were a real band, but even the liner notes of the several CD compilations that exist for the Grass Roots tend to dismiss them as a studio creation.
		They'll tell you that the Grass Roots were a "faceless" band with an ever-rotating membership, with the one consistent "element" being the voice of Rob Grill who led them on all of their hit singles.
		And still sounding and looking great, as if he hasn't aged a day, it is Rob that leads the current version of the Grass Roots on their very active touring schedule.

		The first track cut by the new Grass Roots in the spring of 1967 was "Let's Live for Today," a new version of a song that had been an Italian hit, in a lighter, more uptempo version, for a band called the Rokes.
		The Grass Roots' return to the charts (with Barri producing), however, was a triumphant one -- in the late fall of 1968, "Midnight Confessions" reached number five on the charts and earned a gold record.
		By 1982, amid the burgeoning oldies concert circuit and the respect beginning to be accorded the Grass Roots, Grill formed a new Grass Roots, sometimes billed as "Rob Grill and the Grass Roots" and began performing as many as 100 shows a year.

		From their first hit, Where Were You When I Needed You, in 1966 the Grass Roots had a string of 14 Top 40 hits that kept the band on the charts nearly every week.
