There are a lot of reasons for this, but when you get down to it, they basically broke down a few doors and got trampled underfoot when everyone ran in, and then back out.
No matter; GRAVE DISORDER is for the most part, great, trashy (if occasionally irrelevant) fun.
GRAVE DISORDER, however, demonstrates that they have enough ideas musically to keep things interesting for the foreseeable future.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Sin
Since a voluntary act and its disorder are of the essence of sin, it is impossible that sin should be a generic term in respect to original and actual, mortal and venial sin.
Those sins are judged to be mortal which contain in themselves some grave disorder in regard to God, our neighbour, ourselves, or society.
Since a voluntary act and its disorder are of the essence of sin, venial sin as it is a voluntary act may be defined as a thought, word or deed at variance with the law of God.

 Health, Autistic Spectrum Disorder
These, together with attentional deficit disorders with or without hyperactivity, tic disorders (including Tourette Syndrome) and obsessive and compulsive disorders (OCD) are often classified as disorders on the autism spectrum, because they all overlap in both symptomatology, and in many cases, in commonly seen laboratory abnormalities.
Rett syndrome is a true progressive retardation disorder that occurs almost exclusively in females, and, like Classical Autism, is relatively rare (occurring in one out of every 10,000 to 15,000 births.) It is caused by an identified genetic defect, which results in autistic symptoms appearing after 6- 18 months of age.
This disorder is associated with an increased loss of vitamin B6 and zinc in the urine.

Grave Disorder proves beyond a doubt that Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian are one of the truly great songwriting teams of modern music.

Kult ov Bela - The Damned "Grave Disorder" Review
After performing at a festival show with one of Capt. Sensible's bands, Dave decided that they shouldn't let a squabble between the Captain and drummer, Rat Scabbies get in the way of a possible reunion since they got along well and worked together even better.
So, Rat (another original) was canned and the two began work on their latest release "Grave Disorder," their first album together since they did "Strawberries" in 1982.
The line-up for this album includes Dave, the Captain, Pinch (drummer for such punk bands as English Dogs and Janus Stark), Monty Oxy Moron on keyboards, and Dave's wife, Patricia Morrison on bass (she used to be in the Sisters of Mercy and Gun Club).

No, ‘Grave Disorder’ doesn’t drown in the Brian Jones era spit of ‘Damned, Damned, Damned’, but it sure does wade in the greatness of ‘Machine Guy Etiquette’ (with a ‘Phantasmagoria’ overcoat).
The key to enjoying ‘Grave Disorder’ is to expel the preconceptions the Damned’s past may conjure up (or the current air of defining exactly what is “punk rock”).
But unless they are working on some sort of Halloween themed roster for the apocalypse, putting out ‘Grave Disorder’ was a move made out of respect for what the Damned wereÂ…and who they are now.

 Damned: Grave Disorder Aversion.com Review
It’d be a tough job to appease every one of the band’s fans, with songs that range from the choppy chords of still wet-behind-the-ears punk of the band’s early days to its darker, more intricate dark-rock albums from its mid-’80s, but Grave Disorder comes as close as possible without delivering a disjointed track listing.
The Damned’s straight-ahead rockers are also not to shabby: While the band never finds the guttural power of its early albums there’s flagellating guitars and full-speed drums ("Democracy") or comes forward with crunchy guitars that hint at rockabilly flavors ("She").
Grave Disorder won’t be taking the place of the hearts of its fans like the legendary Phantasmagoria (1985, Off Beat) or 1979’s Machine Gun Etiquette (Roadrunner), but it’s still one of the band’s most focused and successful albums to date.

They have never been shy of melody or rousing choruses, nor of stretching their music beyond punk's traditional parameters.
As the thirteen tracks on Grave Disorder demonstrate, the Damned share several traits with XTC: wry lyrics, fervent Britishness and musical variety that now ranges from prog-goth and arty ballads to political- and punk-pop workouts ("Neverland", "Song.Com", "W") that are as energetic as their early work.

 Blogcritics.org: The Damned, Grave Disorder
The band have split, reformed and reshuffled more times in the last decade (let alone the 1970s and 1980s) than they themselves probably care to remember, and their 1990s discography was pretty much a wasteland of dodgy compilations and live albums.
Grave Disorder offers a fairly good cross-section of The Damned's styles and themes, politicised punk ("Democracy?"), the criticism of religion ("Amen"), ruminations on fame ("Would You Be So Hot [If You Weren't Dead?]", "Neverland"), plus fond Goth-tinged nods to the B-movie monsters of the past ("Beauty of the Beast") and absinthe (the thereminned-up "Absinthe").
Apart from that, Grave Disorder is a welcome return from The Damned.

At the beginning of the Damned's Grave Disorder, "I suspend the sitting, grave disorder having broken out", is barked by the admonished voice of then Speaker of The House Of Commons, Bernard Weatherill, before chunky fuzzed-up guitars and power drums jump-start a frantic poppy rant about revolution changing nothing and voting changing even less.
