Gravelbourg has a legacy as an educational community going back to 1918 with the birth of College Mathieu and the Convent of Jesus and Mary where religious orders began their education of the community's young people.
Gravelbourg is proud to be home to Trailtech, Saskatchewan's leading manufacturer of light commercial trailers, which employs 120 individuals and a recent ABEX Award winner.
Gravelbourg is well known for the historic College Mathieu, which offers residential French education from grades 8 through 12, as well as providing secondary public educational services to adults through the community college on site.

In 1918 a convent was built in the town as well as a college, which was affiliated with U of Ottawa; other Catholic buildings followed, a Romanesque cathedral (1919), a monastery (1926) and a hospital.
With the creation of the Diocese of Gravelbourg (1930) and the appointment of a Francophone bishop, the town became known as the mecca of Saskatchewan's French inhabitants.

The Gravelbourg District, located in South Central Saskatchewan comprises of 20 rural municipalities (RM's) encompassing two million hectares of land predominantly used for crop and livestock production.
The Gravelbourg District Office maintains and operates a federally owned storage reservoir: Lafleche dam impounding Thomson Lake Reservoir provides a water supply to the town of Gravelbourg, town of Lafleche and a large rural area in the district.
A further 450 cubic decameters annually can be allocated for rural water supplies while still maintaining a reserve to supply foreseeable expansion of the urban and irrigation uses the reservoir currently supplies.

Family and friends of Gerald Monvoisin will gather in Gravelbourg today to remember the area farmer and businessman who was killed on the weekend when he was accidentally pinned beneath a piece of farm machinery at an auction sale.
He was known to frequent such sales in search of used farm equipment, some of which found its way from the Gravelbourg area to another continent.
Gravelbourg Mayor Henri Lepage said Monvoisin's absence will be felt by not only his family but many in the area.

 Charles Maillard
Father Maillard, who was entrusted with the care of the Gravelbourg Parish and of the people’s spiritual needs, sacrificed his free time to the pictural decoration of the interior of the newly built church.

Bishop Melanson took leave from Gravelbourg on February 9, 1937, to be installed in Moncton on February 22.
