Gravimetry is the measurement of a gravitational field.
Gravimetry may be used when either the magnitude of gravitational field or the properties of matter responsible for its creation are of interest.
The research and development in airborne gravimetry in the last 4 years can be subdivided into two major areas: improvement of conventional airborne gravimeters and development of new airborne gravity systems or integrated airborne systems.

 NPL and Environmental Measurements
Accurate weighing (gravimetry) of air filters is essential to support the growing number of International and European Standards methods being developed for a wide variety of air monitoring techniques.
The gravimetry facilities used at NPL were installed, commissioned and maintained with funding from the VAM Programme.
The initial objectives of the study were to produce an optimised weighing protocol and to define the characteristics of the balances used, thus quantifying the major sources of error in the gravimetric technique.

NGA: (U) Report on International Workshop on Airborne Gravimetry and Polar Gravity Field - Svalbard, Norway, August 7, ...
Twenty participants from six countries gathered to an informal workshop on the Arctic gravity field, held at UNIS (University of Svalbard), Longyearbyen, Norway.
Since 1992 major parts of the western and central Arctic basins have been covered by long-range airborne gravimetry, in a program sponsored by NGA.
The different projects, based on many different kinds of aircraft (smaller Twin-Otters or Do-228’s, or long-range P-3’s or IL-38’s) shows that aerogravity has now become an operational tool, although there still is room for much research and development on both improving gravity sensor performance as well as improving accuracy of long-range kinematic GPS.

Satellite gravimetry measurements from the upcoming Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission will offer a new and powerful way to observe the ocean.
In this talk, we discuss the application of global time-varying gravity measurements to improving estimates of the time-varying ocean heat content and observing the ocean's deep geostrophic velocities.
By using output from an ocean general circulation model to construct synthetic Jason and GRACE data, we have developed and assessed methods for determining the steric variability and deep geostrophic currents.
