Gravitation was the very first shonen-ai manga that I read, and I fell in love with it immediately.

Gravitation is a yaoi manga, that I happen to think is a work of sheer brilliance and genius.
I call the manga a work of genius because it is. The characters are somewhat real, (I can relate to them) even when they are a bit extreme.

In my opinion, one of the large reasons for the popularity of manga by non-Japanese reading individuals, is because of the artwork.
There is quite a difference between anime and manga in terms of artwork.
I discovered Gravitation on accident, after seeing a calendar of artwork, I was hooked.

The tagline for Gravitation reads, “Love: The one force that simply won't be denied,” a phrase that conjures up Brokeback Mountain's famous tagline, “Love is a force of nature.” But Gravitation is worlds apart from the realm of Jack and Ennis, although there are indeed parallels.
Manga often involve a “decompressing” style, or in other words, like soap operas, they tell a story over multiple issues in serial fashion.
Gravitation also falls within the category of shonen-ai, which literally translates to “young men's love,” and are manga or anime titles that deal with love between young men.

AnimeOnDVD.com >> Disc Reviews >> Gravitation OVA: Lyrics of Love
With the manga series popular and growing since its introduction in the mid 90's, Sony tested the waters according to the liner notes here with some audio dramas that went well.
What's definitely true though in my opinion is that the OVA series is much closer to the manga in style and humor and that it is going on the assumption that you are familiar with the cast as there are no real introductions here.
It truly is a love letter to fans of the manga but it works out in that fans worldwide can get into it since the TV series has come out before it and that makes this OVA far more accessible than it would have been otherwise.

I've seen Gravitation, and I liked it - it isn't one of those anime series with a deep, meaningful plot, but it was rather relaxing and enjoyable.

I've seen Gravitation as well and it was certainly interesting for a yoai anime.

Gravitation has been available online in many places for quite some time, but the way I first saw the series was through buying the Hong-Kong version DVD import on e-bay.
Each song in Gravitation is unique, and the beginning and ending themes (Super Drive and Glaring Dream-- they're included in the TV soundtrack) are the best anime beginning and ending themes that I've ever heard.

Gravitation is way out there, and the story wanders around a bit, but it's highly entertaining.
GRAVITATION is the story of Shuichi Shindou, high school senior and aspiring musician, whose talent and self-worth become completely hung up on his infatuation with the mean-and-nasty romance novelist who insulted his lyrics.

As a result, book one has a rushed feel to it, and Murakami’s uncertainties show through some of the characters and her comments allude to some revisions made in the artwork for the graphic novels in order to fix mistakes made in preparing the original inserts.
The anime artwork is cleaner than in the manga (which has a wilder look, as if she was drawing with Shindou’s hyperactivity), and the storyline is condensed and streamlined, eliminating some of the jerkiness and disappearing elements of the later volumes (like Shindou’s sister).
There’s nothing graphic in the regular manga (un/fortunately depending on who you ask), but there’s a series of doujinshi put out by Murakami with graphic sex to fill in some of the gaps where it would be in the normal books.

This disc is not recommended to people who have serious problems with homosexuality, and everyone should be warned that the disc is rated 16+ for one kind of graphic (though there is no sex) scene that Shuichi imagines (you need to be ok with the idea of Yuki in some skimpy undies, too).
The TV series has quite a bit of the "feeling" of the manga in it, but this OVA is even better in regards to humorous comments and situations and asides to the audience.

Currently, Gravitation is her most popular work of manga, as she is still slowly expanding her creations throughout Japan and becoming more and more known to the anime/manga community.
Maki Murakami's first work of manga was in the 1995 April issue of "Kimito Boku." Her work was titled "Narushisuto No Higeki," roughly translating to "the Tragedy of a narcissist." She became popular with her amazing creation of Gravitation.
Murakami is also the artist for all of the Gravitation Remixes, a doujinshi series that furthers the relationship of Yuki x Shuichi, as well as introduce new pairings, odd pairings and incest pairings.

TOKYOPOP has chosen not to use the same logo they used for their release of the manga, and I can't say that I'm sad over this fact.
Gravitation is blessed (cursed, perhaps) with a very dedicated fanbase, so I’m certain there will be those who can speak volumes about the nuances of the translation found here, but I'll not dwell on the details.
Fans of the Gravitation manga and anime series are likely eager for this additional foray into the lives of Shuichi and company, but it doesn't really offer them anything new.

Gravitation has no "magic meetings of the soul" or "bonding through anal penetration", even though it's yaoi.

Out of all three Gravie mediums (manga, tv series, oav) I've always placed the OAV at the bottom of my list but, the music in it is my favorite music in any anime period.
