IX. Neurology. 3. The Spinal Cord or Medulla Spinalis. Gray, Henry. 1918. Anatomy of the Human Body.
The Posterior Column (columna posterior; posterior cornu) is long and slender, and is directed backward and lateralward: it reaches almost as far as the posterolateral sulcus, from which it is separated by a thin layer of white substance, the tract of Lissauer.
The posterior gray commissure reaches from the central canal to the posterior median septum, and is thinnest in the thoracic region, and thickest in the conus medullaris.
—These form a column which is best marked where the lateral gray column is differentiated, viz., in the thoracic region; 115 but it can be traced throughout the entire length of the medulla spinalis in the form of groups of small cells which are situated in the anterior part of the formatio reticularis.

The Rear Column - Simon Gray
The few left behind at the rear column (and those who join up with them) are, as they recognize, apparently left to "rot among rotting niggers for no reason".
The Rear Column is specifically about Englishman and Englishness and duty and stiff upper lips (superficially maintained, but in fact rotted to the core soon enough in these awful circumstances), but it is also a useful reminder of the obscenity and absurdity of the entire colonial enterprise.
Gray's dialogue is light and bright through much of the play, effectively highlighting the absurdity of the situation.

What made Gray’s day was a column he wrote that appeared on the first page of the Boston Herald’s sports section.
Gray said the reaction to the column, which he called “the most important piece I’ve done in my life,” has been overwhelmingly positive and that he expects it to be “business as usual” the next time he goes into a locker room.
Gray’s column represents a public coming out, but he said he has been out to some people, including his family.

John Gray has turned his book into a brand and wrought a financial empire through publishing, a chain of licensed counseling centers, seminar workshops, a syndicated advice column, television and radio broadcasts, not to mention the lucrative lecture circuit.
Gray received his undergraduate degrees from Maharishi European Research University in Seelisberg, Switzerland before returning to the United States in 1982, according to his posted bio at Brooks International.
Gray chose instead to mislead both the public and professionals by clothing himself with a mantle of degrees and dubiously achieved memberships.

Ed Gray, a 55-year-old reporter who has worked at the Herald for about two decades, said in an interview Tuesday that he was compelled to reveal his sexual preference because he believes homophobia has gotten pervasive.
Gray -- whose primary beat is horse racing, but also has written about the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots -- said he wasn't worried about how athletes would treat him after his column.
Gray declined to detail the personal reasons he decided to publicly reveal his homosexuality, but said in his column that he decided to come out because "the silence of a closeted gay man only serves to give his implicit approval to bigotry."

Now, this mythological description about the role and the place of the gray cardinal in Russian politics may not be very realistic, but there are reasons that such a description arose in the first place.
For every successful gray cardinal there is at least one loser who was unable to walk in step with the times or who overestimated his own abilities.
If, during the height of his power, the gray cardinal is neither seen nor heard, then a few months before his demise, this mysterious figure comes forth from the shadows and begins intensively interacting with the world.

 CMVP Honorific Column
On 4 July 1995 the Caesarea Maritima Vault Project discovered an inscribed column of gray marble, split in half and reused as a paving stone in one of the late antique floors of the vault.
Again, the splitting of the column removed the left side of the panel and the beginning of each line of the text.
The letter forms and parallels with the other columns from Caesarea indicate a date in the third or very early fourth century for both inscriptions on this column, although a date in the second century cannot be excluded.

The point of Dopirak's column, if it had been read carefully, was not that fls should accept the so-called racist ideology that Gray is so certain is the cornerstone of a few choice white students' beliefs.
Rather, the point was that nobody on either side should lump a whole group of people into one category, as the student in question did when he said that 90 percent of the school was against them.

Gray Davis has never been anybody's "progressive." In a 1998 debate before his first election, Davis singled out the caning nation of Singapore as "a good starting place in terms of law and order." When pressed on the point by stunned reporters, he replied: "They don't fool around.
