In 1801, the parish contained a population of 11,747 souls; in 1831, 15,955; and in 1841, 17,103; and 29,894 acres of land.
BUDWORTH (GREAT), is a township and pleasant village, 3 miles north from Northwich, situated on the acclivity of a hill, near two fine sheets of water, called Budworth mere, and Pick mere.
At the Conquest, Budworth was held by William Fitz Nigell, Baron of Halton.

After divine worship in the chapel at nine o'clock in the morning, the children and congregation assemble on the green (always kept in the nicest order) and decorate the May-Pole, which is then raised amidst the joyeous shouts of the assembled throng.
Dorothy Glover, in 1869, gave £600, and directed the interest of £100, to be paid to the vicar of Budworth, on condition that he should preach a sermon yearly, on the subject of "Death".
The interest of a like sum to be paid to the schoolmaster at Budworth, and the interest of the residue, £400, to be distributed among poor housekeepers in Aston.

Great Budworth is a large picturesque parish in North Cheshire famous for its salt mines.
The village of Great Budworth is situated about three kilometres to the north of Northwich, near to Pick Mere and Budworth Mere.
Gatleys have lived in the parish of Great Budworth since at least the 1650s, but the first of whom we have any real knowledge is Matthew Gatley who was born in the early 1700s and married three times in the 1730s and 40s.

At the dissolution of the monasteries, Henry VIII gave the tithes to Christ Church, Oxford and the Dean and Chapter remain the patrons of the living.

He was born at Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, England in 1590, to the Vicar of Great Budworth, Chester – Richard Eaton (1569-1616) and his wife, Elizabeth Shepheard (1569-1630).
He was married to a Grace Hiller in 1622, and at least had a daughter (Mary), and a son (Samuel) before her death (some authorities think that he also had a son by the name of James).
In the spring his group moved from Boston and when they arrived on April 14, 1638 they named the site New Haven.
