Great Commission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Critics note that the portion of Mark 16 which records the commission is not found in two of the oldest Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus.
The response generally given is that this is immaterial, as essentially the same thing is quoted as having been said by Jesus in at least three other New Testament passages, and additionally that the passage in question was regarded as part of the canon of the scriptures throughout most of Church history.
Evangelicals often contrast this Great Commission with the Limited Commission of Matthew 10:5-42, in which they were to restrict their mission to their fellow Jews, to whom Jesus referred as "the lost sheep of the house of Israel".

The Great Lakes Commission is an eight-state compact United States agency established in 1955 through the Great Lakes Basin Compact, in order to "promote the orderly, integrated and comprehensive development, use and conservation of the water resources of the Great Lakes Basin," which includes the Saint Lawrence River.
The commission provides policy development, coordination, and advocacy on issues of regional concern, as well as communication and research services.

First, NOAA and the Great Lakes Commission are presently laying the groundwork for an exciting partnership opportunity that touches on a leading unmet regional need: the development of a large-scale, consensus-driven and science-based ecosystem restoration plan.
Second, a goal of both NOAA and the Great Lakes Commission is to ensure the sustainable use and management of Great Lakes water resources to protect environmental quality and provide for water-based economic activity in the Great Lakes.
I also believe that the Great Lakes Commission is critical to setting and achieving regional goals regarding the health and well-being of the Great Lakes as well as contributing to the national environmental and economic agenda.

Viewed in context, the "great commission" is the climax of Matthew's Gospel, "the summary," and "the key to the understanding of the whole Gospel.
This understanding of the "Great Commission" is a warning to those churches that are not doing well in their Christian education program, or in their biblical preaching and teaching, fostering generations of Bible illiterates.
The last commission is all-inclusive; no one is excluded in the command to "make disciples of all nations." The Gospel of Matthew, which comes to its climax in these last verses, is clear that Jesus' mission is for both Jews and Gentiles.

 Great Commission and the Christers
For obvious reasons, The Great Commission is the sort of thing that really rankles in a multi-cultural, relativistic world, one in which claims to make disciples of all nations aren't welcomed with opened arms.
It would seem, therefore, on the basis of the evidence Ireland himself presents, that the Great Commission is not a motivating factor for social action by conservative Christians.
Though the Great Commission – Jesus's imperative that his followers "make disciples from all nations" – motivates Christians to evangelize, it does not have much to do with their efforts to make a difference in society.

But, before we look at the Great Commission and its implications for us as biblically orthodox Episcopalians, let’s look at where we’re all headed, what the goal is, and what the result will look like when the Great Commission has been fulfilled.
Theology and mission cannot be separated, and that’s why Jesus says that the heart of the Great Commission is to “baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” — to be a Converting Church.
Then, Jesus says what is usually the great omission from the Great Commission: “teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you.” In other words, the fifth characteristic of a biblically orthodox church is that it will be an Obedient Church.
